Responsible for planning, implementing, and supervising resident services. Interviews hire, evaluate, and disciplines resident services staff. Establishes time schedules for resident services staff on specific shifts. Assigns and delegates responsibilities to resident services staff for the specific residents, based on the qualifications of the staff and needs of the residents. Ensures each resident receives services as prescribed or requested in accordance with federal and state regulations and facility policies and procedures. Assures prompt, appropriate action in cases of injury, illness, fire, or other emergencies.

Qualifications:
  • Ability to teach and/or make oral presentations to individuals and groups.
  • genuine interest in the needs of the aged.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English. Effective writing skills.
  • Self-motivated and well-organized.
  • Ability to relate positively, effectively, and appropriately with residents, families, community members, and all levels of personnel.

Required:
  • Currently licensed with the state board of nurse examiners as a professional nurse.
  • Professional in appearance and work habits.
  • Ability to acquire knowledge and understanding of federal and state rules and regulations governing facilities.
  • Problem identification and resolution skills.
  • Demonstrate integrity, imagination, and initiative, showing appropriate manners and conduct.
  • Ability to relate well to persons of varying backgrounds, abilities, and expectations.
  • Ability to use and demonstrate the use of all resident services equipment.
  • Manual dexterity in order to manipulate equipment.
  • Ability to direct, delegate and follow up on programs and service/care of the residents.
  • Acceptable references.

Preferred:
  • Experience in geriatrics.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Registered Nurse

Major Responsibilities.
Essential Functions Personnel:
  • Assist in the recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of quality staff to meet staffing requirements while staying within budgetary constraints and without a need for temporary/agency help.
  • Counsel and discipline employees when required in a fair and consistent manner per policies.
  • As directed, schedule resident services staff and assure a correct number of staff is on duty.
  • Replace employees who call off for the next shift, as directed.
  • Coordinate assignments with other support personnel.
  • Provide a written assignment for each employee consistent with his/her experience and training which outlines residents to be cared for and other duties to be executed during the shift.
  • Supervise personnel and evaluate performance on an ongoing basis to ensure residents receive appropriate service.
  • Evaluate/discuss a plan of action and follow through with specific problems in the unit.
  • Assure documentation on resident records by unit personnel is complete and accurate.
  • Hold mini-conferences to keep personnel informed of new trends in resident service/care, policies and procedures.
  • Instruct personnel on the use of equipment.

Resident Service/Care:
  • Complete service plan on new admissions, and update per federal requirements, state regulations, and facility policy and procedure.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of resident service/care plans according to policy and procedure. Update as necessary.
  • Engage resident and family participation in service/care planning by explaining approaches and involving them in teaching programs.
  • Make resident rounds frequently to assure that each resident is given timely and appropriate service/care including medication, treatments, diet as prescribed, nourishment, skin service/care to prevent pressure ulcers, and is kept clean and comfortable.
  • Observe resident symptoms, reactions to medications and/or treatments, changes in condition, and unexpressed needs.
  • Notify the administrator, physician, and family and take appropriate action when significant changes in condition occur.
  • Write incident reports as indicated and follow up on incidents from other shifts as well as designated shifts.
  • Prepare, administer, and document medications and treatments as ordered by the physician in accordance with federal requirements, state regulations, and facility policies and procedures.
  • Order and receive medications from the pharmacy. Contact physicians and record physicians' verbal orders.
  • Transcribe physicians' orders with accuracy and assure follow-up as indicated. Follow the stop order policy.
  • Conduct monthly drug re-cap according to facility policy and procedure.
  • Count controlled drugs; dispose of discontinued medications according to state regulations.
  • Monitor each resident's physical and mental functioning, psychological well-being, and nutritional status to detect deviations from baseline and to gauge progress.
  • Obtain and document vital signs, weights, intake and output, diet supplements and replacements, etc., according to facility policy.
  • Ensure universal precautions are used properly throughout the facility. Maintain work area in clean, safe, and sanitary condition at all times.
  • Ensure resident is treated with dignity and respect. Investigate complaints of residents and families and refer them to the Administrator or take appropriate action.
  • Make necessary arrangements for consultants, laboratory, and x-ray as necessary.

Facility:
  • Maintain adequate supplies at the resident services desk. Submit requests for supplies per facility system.
  • Assure resident services supplies and equipment and work areas are clean, neat, and orderly.
  • Complete forms and reports as requested by the administrator.
  • Participate constructively in meetings and committees as requested by the administrator.
  • Attend in-service meetings.
  • Maintain good public relations with families, visitors, community members, residents, and other facility personnel.
  • Respond quickly to all emergency situations.
  • Assist in fire control and evacuation during fire and disaster.
  • Assure unit personnel knows actions to be taken during fire or disaster. Perform CPR as necessary.

Other Duties:
  • Meet continuing education requirements where necessary for state licensure/registration.
  • Assist personnel as needed to maintain the continuity and efficiency of resident services.
  • Perform related work as requested.
