Lyon Shipyard is looking for individuals that possess knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA’s) sufficient to provide a full range of rigging duties. The person should also be able to consider factors such as the size, shape and location of the object as well as the availability and strength of the overhead support structures.

The position communicates with co-workers in all departments, and maintains a safe, organized and clean work environment.

Must have NCCCO or NACB certification or has held one in the past.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, layout, assemble, repair and install complex weight handling gear and various standing and running rigging.
  • Inspect fabricate, replace and turn standing rigging such as slings, tackle and ladders using hand and power tools.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of rigging procedures and equipment
  • Select gear; cables, pulleys and winches according to the load weight, size and work schedule.
  • Aligns, levels and anchors machinery.
  • Splices and ties rope to form netting, ladders and other rigging.
  • Install hooks, swivels and turnbuckles in rigging, reeves lines through blocks
  • Move ships engines, generators, turbines, pumps, boilers, structural shapes and plates, as well as ordnance equipment such as bombs, torpedoes, aluminum and electronic equipment such as sonar rear.
  • Installs and inspects beam clamps, pad eyes, gallows frames and other supporting structures for rigging gear.
  • Test gears for strength and safety
  • Assists the drivers in the salvage work, move salvage equipment and raise objects to be salvaged

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or graduation from a certified technical school.
  • Minimum (5) five years of related experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

Education based on requirements that are job-related and consistent with the business necessity.

  • Experience in a Shipyard/ Military setting

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Knowledge of rigging procedures and equipment
  • Coordinate and arrange the work of several trades
  • Solid ability to perform work received from technical documents, blueprints, specifications, and written and/ or oral instructions.
  • Plan, layout, assemble, repair and install complex weight handling gear and various standing and running rigging.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the shipyard work environment can be loud.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

The position requires frequent lifting, pushing and pulling objects that are 85 pounds or heavier.

Position Type/ Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. This position periodically requires long hours and weekend work. Regular and predictable on-site attendance is an essential function and a prerequisite to perform other essential functions of the position.
