Black River Roasters is a Specialty Coffee Roastery and Café producing organic-certified coffee from all over the world using a LORING S15 FALCON coffee roaster.

GENERAL ROASTING JOB DESCRIPTION:

DUTIES:

• Oversee weighing and packaging coffee for café and wholesale accounts
• Organization of incoming green coffee shipments for proper placement within warehouse for efficient set up and access for Roasting
• Update green coffee inventory upon delivery of the beans
• Load green coffee into buckets to be weighed and then transferred into roaster
• Prepare various coffee blends according to established formulas
• Learn establishment roasting quality standards
• Participate in regular coffee tastings to ensure quality standards
• Examine roast charts from previous roasts to improve quality
• Clean and perform regular maintenance on Roasters and other equipment in the Roasting and Green Coffee packaging area per maintenance schedules
• Research and be up to date on roasting techniques and industry standards
• Communicate with coffee importers and sample new coffees with management
• Communicate blend changes with General Manager and staff to ensure labels and coffee information is up to date

REQUIREMENTS:

• Reliability is paramount
• Individual must demonstrate flexibility to meet quickly changing production and roasting schedules
• Individual must be able to perform heaving lifting (lift 50-100 pounds) and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Must be able to operate mechanical equipment
• Experience with or strong desire to learn about coffee quality and tasting.
• Good communication and organizational skills
• Basic math skills (ability to do “on the fly math”)
• Take direction and work under pressure
• Accurately follow directions and established formulas
• Perform physical requirements of position
• Work well with a team

Working conditions:

• Standing and walking for extended periods of time, up to 8-12 hours
• Bending, stooping and climbing
• Mental and physical dexterity
• Unassisted heavy lifting up to 100 pounds
• Work in and around high temperatures of Roaster
• Use of box cutters
• Repetitive duties
• Perform all related job duties as required

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour

Schedule:

• 10 hour shift
• 8 hour shift
• Day shift
• Monday to Friday

Education:

• Bachelor's (Preferred)

Experience:

• service industry: 1 year (Preferred)
• Coffee: 1 year (Required)
