Malloy Aeronautics is an innovative and rapidly growing company that leads the field in heavy lift unmanned air vehicles for civilian and military applications.

Manufacturing aircraft in the UK, Malloy sells to customers around the world. With sales in the US increasing, Malloy is growing a small group of dedicated individuals to support US operations and expansion. This role will be based at the offices of Malloy’s partner firm, Survice engineering in Churchville, MD.

We require an experienced technician to help implement and run Malloy’s operation in the US. Initially this will involve quality checks, minor repairs, assistance with remote troubleshooting and setup of duplicate production lines to those already running in the UK.

The ideal candidate needs will have experience working in a products business with direct involvement producing parts and sub-assemblies, conducting quality control and rework. The role will be very hands-on so a level of technical competence is key to allow efficient mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, with guidance from the UK.

The role will start with at least 1 month’s training in the UK on Malloy’s production lines. All aspects of the aircraft manufacture will be covered, as well as common troubleshooting techniques. Most of all it will be an opportunity to put a faces to the names of the Malloy team members you will be working most closely with.

After training, you will be a representative for Malloy working at Survice’s offices alongside their ~30 engineers, technicians and pilots. There will be regular visits from UK management and other staff, but for some periods you will be the sole representative of Malloy in the US.

This is a unique opportunity for a self-motivated individual to help Malloy develop its US footprint. Along with the core areas of responsibility listed, there is scope for this role to help push the growth of Malloy’s US operations in other ways. What you’ll own:

  • Conducting electro-mechanical work on Malloy Aeronautics aircraft
  • Tracking of shipments inbound and reporting to Survice
  • Inbound quality control checks of aircraft shipped from UK manufacturing
  • Hand-over of cleared aircraft to Survice Engineering
  • Troubleshooting of issues and completion of corrective actions
  • Working with UK engineers to make preparations for new production cells
  • Implementing production cells designs and commissioning
  • Operation of production equipment
  • QC and test of produced parts
  • Regular calls and reporting on all of your activities back to the UK

Our ideal candidate:

  • Excellent mechanical skills, use of common workshop hand tools and machinery
  • Experience of working on complex assemblies including mechanical, circuitry and wiring aspects
  • Some electronic awareness to aid in troubleshooting of equipment (with UK support)
  • Experience working in a high volume production environment and awareness of the normal controls required to make a consistent product.
  • Evidence of working to or owning procedures that ensure a process is conducted safely
  • Awareness of risk assessment processes
  • Experience setting up equipment and implementing new processes around it
  • Excellent record keeping and reporting with an attention to detail
  • Experience working alongside electrical and mechanical design engineers, taking direction on process and giving concise feedback

Bonus Points for:

  • Experience or an interest in aviation (manned, drones, UAV)

Travel:

  • Some US based travel to accompany Survice on trials as a support engineer may be required (>10%)
  • Trips back to the UK 2-3 times a year or as required for extra training.
