Cabot has an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate who will start their career at the technology organization through a series of assignments across various technology teams.
This role is designed to allow gaining exposure to Cabot’s different businesses, products and applications before being assigned to a position in a specific technology group. The rotations will be based in Billerica, MA.

In this role, you will spend 2 years working on 3 assignments within different teams in the technology organization. This opportunity to collaborate in varied technical environments allows you to build the knowledge, skills, and capabilities in various areas. You will have the opportunity to experience how various businesses within Cabot leverage our common tools and practices in the ways that are best suited to the unique dynamics of each business.

A successful candidate will be someone who will:
Work closely with scientists and engineers on complex projects, executing experiments and tests with attention to observation and learning.- Execute activities under supervision, troubleshoot issues in a timely manner and drive the resolution of problems.
- Generate data, conduct data analysis, and organize and interpret data to establish and support new product or application learning.
- Work closely with their assignment leaders to ensure good intellectual property management, including capturing opportunities to protect new learnings as patents and trade secrets.
- Proactively share knowledge and information with others to drive stronger technical solutions. Organize and communicate data to technical groups in a way that is clearly understood.
- Strictly follow and comply with all SH&E procedures, standards and regulations and constantly strive for Excellence in the fields of sustainability and Safety, Health and preservation of the Environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or a related field
- A good understanding of/willingness to learn laboratory equipment, procedures, and safety practices.
- Intellectual curiosity: seeks to know and understand Cabot’s technology broadly and knowledge of basic principles of chemistry and/or engineering
- Analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to identify out-of-range results and note unusual patterns.
- Communication & Presentation Skills. Effective and comfortable summarizing research work in written reports and team presentations.
- Understanding and passion for any of the following topics would be a plus:
o Battery science/electrochemistry
