Healogics is hiring a full-time Safety Coordinator for our Wound Care Center at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia.



Job Profile Summary Job Summary:

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for the safe and effective operation, control, and maintenance of the
Hyperbaric Chamber systems and all supporting components. The Safety Coordinator shall act as the
program representative for chamber system maintenance and be the resource for resolving safety-related
issues for the Hyperbaric department, provide leadership for the technical personnel, and supervise their
standards for the program training and qualifications relating to safe operation of the chamber system.

Job Description
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:


  • Ensures program compliance with the requirements of NFPA 99, Ch. 19, PVHO- I, and all unit safety policies. Makes necessary recommendations for program safety policies and incorporates new safety procedures, as appropriate.
  • Serves as the program’s technical representative and ensures that the technical personnel comply with published preventative maintenance schedules. Ensures proper training and completion of daily and weekly chamber checklists. Maintains accurate chamber log.
  • Reviews all program safety incidents, collects information regarding equipment patient safety, reports relevant issues to staff and periodically provides training on accident prevention. Ensures proper training and diligence with patient pre-dive checklist. Restricts and removes any potentially hazardous supply or equipment items from hyperbaric environment.
  • Develops and periodically reviews / revises program policy and procedure, operation andmaintenance manual
  • Maintains a positive relationship between the department and with local Fire Department, Fire Marshall, EMS Director and pressure Vessel Inspector as appropriate.
  • Coordinates and approves all upgrades, modification, and repairs to the chamber system including the interaction with hospital maintenance personnel and outside contractors.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of all chamber maintenance.
  • Evaluates chamber equipment/supplies used in the chamber and ensure that they meet hospital Biomedical department requirements as well as all the safety requirements before they are permitted inside the chamber.
  • Maintains a safe environment in the unit for patients and staff and ensures the adequate and safe decompression of all personnel with a hyperbaric exposure.
  • Informs personnel of any special working conditions such as infection control, Hazardous Material control, confined spaces, etc. and provides adequate training for those environments.
  • Serves as the departments’ technical trainer for staff and provides in-services related to the appropriate aspects of hyperbaric physiology, decompression tables, equipment operations and safety, and treatment protocols. Documents and maintains log of all training and attendance.
  • Validates console operator and inside observer training for new Associates before completion of hyperbaric training.
  • Generates and supervises chamber drills which are tailored towards improving staff response to emergency operations. Ensures a copy of Emergency Procedures is available and maintained by the chambers at all times. Conducts and documents all medical and mechanical emergencies training as well as hospital related emergency training.
  • Participates in the department and hospital Continuous Quality Improvement and risk management programs with the focus of improving the quality of services provided.
  • Complies with department requirement for continuing education and maintains active participation in hyperbaric related organizations. (NFPA, UHMS, ASME, DAN, etc.)
  • Attends off campus education seminars and training to continually maintain a current knowledge base for the industry codes and regulations.
  • Coordinates with the Medical Director in reviewing and documenting safety related events and reports appropriate items to facilitate staff education.
  • Participates in unit Performance Improvement and Outcomes Report.
  • Participates in hospital committees as designated.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
