About this opportunity
Safety Coordinator will be responsible for the overall safety, health, and wellness performance of the facility. The primary responsibility is to assist in designing and implementing an effective safety culture, process, and program that ensures employee safety, health, and wellness. In addition, the Safety Coordinator monitors the quality of the safety program with the expectation of continuous improvement.

What you will do
  • Facilitate the continuous reduction of risk in the facility.
  • Supports all activities in developing, implementing, and maintaining the quality and food safety management system.
  • Report any quality and/or food safety problems to personnel of authority to initiate action.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating the Safety SharePoint site. Pulling data from the Safety SharePoint site to generate the monthly Safety Report. Assist in developing a monthly safety presentation for the Packaging Senior Management Team. Reviewing the Safety Goals and Initiatives entered by the plants to ensure they are current and in compliance with the expectations.
  • Facilitate the Safety Steering Committee.
  • Manage Cority safety system.
  • Assign Safety Steering Committee Audits and Safety Interviews.
  • Participates and reviews all incident investigations.
  • Assist HR in all matters of injury management as needed.
  • Facilitate employee engagement and recognition activities.
  • Organize and maintain all safety related records.
  • Acts as Ergonomic and Industrial Hygiene Coordinator.
  • Assist the General Manager to establish safety performance goals for the plant.
  • Publishes, issues, and enforces plant safety rules and policies.
  • Recommend, develop, and facilitate training plans and refresher training for safety, health, and wellness.
  • Meet with the General Manager and HR Director as needed basis to discuss safety related issues.
  • Assist the General Manager and HR Director in designing a training program, which educates and prioritizes safety with all employees.
  • Ensures the plant remains in compliance with Local, State, Federal and OSHA regulations.
  • Ensures the plant remains in compliance with Corporate Safety and Health Audit recommendations.
  • Conducts orientation training for new employees and contractors.
  • Ensures corrective actions on incident investigations are completed and tracked.
  • Publish updates and revisions to the local Safety and Health Manuals to assure compliance with Corporate Safety and Health guidelines.
  • Conduct PEO (Plant Emergency Organization) Crew Training, drills, and activities.
  • Publish annual update on Corporate Safety and Health Audit items.
  • Develops training to comply with changes in corporate policy or development of new corporate programs.
  • Prepares and conducts monthly safety training that complies with mandated company and governmental requirements.
  • Acts as BBS (Behavior Based Safety) Committee Chairperson and manages the BBS Program.
  • Ensures all safety audits and inspections are conducted (i. e. electrical cords, slings, fire equipment, etc.).
  • Ensures all safety audits are conducted (i. e. Steering Committee, Safety Interview, Lock/Tag/Try Compliance
  • Verification, Electrical, Guarding, Confined Space, PPE, Container Labeling, etc.).
  • Ensures safety focus audits are completed and tracked.
  • Summarize and distribute previous months recordable and near miss incidents.
  • Assist General Manager and HR Director with trend analysis.
  • Assures First Aid Room and First Responder Kits / Bio-Hazard buckets are inventoried.
  • Schedules and attends First Responder Training.
  • Assist Corporate with conducting ITO (Industrial Truck Operator) Train-The-Trainers Training.
  • Assist HR Director with quarterly meetings with workers compensation carrier to assure that Workers’ Compensation costs are being controlled.
  • Maintains all Safety scorecards.
  • Review and approve/disapprove all new PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) prior to purchase.
  • Review and sign-off on all contractor approvals.
  • Conduct Corporate Safety Audits at sister facilities as requested.
  • Manage on-site chemical procurement, storage, and hazard communication (Safety Data Sheets).
  • Manage audits and inspections and track all corrective/preventive actions.

  • College degree a plus
  • Professional safety certification (CSP) a plus
  • EXCELLENT computer skills
  • PROFICIENT in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Knowledge of visual management tools
