Mill Steel Company’s Safety Manager is responsible for providing strategic direction in our safety initiatives and leading continuous improvement efforts. This position will encompass our 5 multi-state distribution facilities and our headquarter office in Grand Rapids, MI. This position will support and advise senior leadership in regards to process improvement, safety management systems and OSHA compliance. The ideal candidate will thrive in a change management capacity, being able to dig into existing processes and procedures and deliver a high level of hazard recognition and mitigation.

Daily Responsibilities:

• Evaluating, developing, preparing, and implementing safety programs, policies, and procedures at our facilities in collaboration with senior leadership
• Review and revamp existing disaster preparedness procedures and policies
• Conducts audits to identify safety hazards and implement corrective measures
• Promote and ensure effective safety operations by conducting safety inspections, administering investigation training, and communicating accident prevention
• Safety Audit and coaching field visits
• Safety meeting facilitation and attendance
• Create and review standard operating procedures and work instructions related to safety
• Traveling 30-40% of the time to implement and evaluate safety practices across all North American facilities and Headquarter Office (Grand Rapids, MI)

What you will have:

• Minimum 7-10 years of experience of safety management experience in heavy manufacturing environment
• Proven experience in a process improvement and change management role
• Be able to embrace detail and analytics for trending of data and reporting to senior leadership
• Experience with safety program writing and development
• High level of accountability for excellence in safety
• Ability to interface with all areas of business levels in written and verbal communication
• Should have strong attention to detail
