Ashton Lewis Lumber is seeking to add a leader to our Safety team. This position would be primarily based at the location in Gatesville, North Carolina, but make frequent travel to the nearby location in Ruther Glen, Virginia.

The Regional Safety Specialist's role exists to promote and augment safety on jobsites to the highest level. To reach this level, the Regional Safety Specialist must work both independently and together with the Plant Leadership Team to create a safe workplace environment. Using extensive knowledge of OSHA Standards and State and Local Regulations, the Safety Specialist will provide regular guidance and knowledge to the Teams, address any immediate hazards, and understand and react to any potentially hazardous exposures.

Essential Functions:

• Provides leadership and establishes a safety culture
• Conducts audits of the site to verify compliance and identify unsafe conditions
• Maintains documentation necessary to comply with the Safety Management Plan, OSHA and other applicable regulations
• Works with plant management to enforce safety policies and procedures that help prevent accidents
• Represents the site in incident investigations, complaints, and recommends measure to management to prevent reoccurrences
• Interacts with OSHA and other regulatory agencies regarding citations, accidents, claims, site visits and audits
• Organizes and conducts safety meetings and training
• Verifies that contractors are monitoring the implementation of the Safety Management Plan
• Manages the safety committee; maintains minutes and status reports for safety and other meetings and events
• Interacts and communicates with subcontractor safety personnel
• Able to adapt to a flexible, fast-paced and dynamic work environment

Qualifications/Skills:

• Ability to write and implement written site safety management plan.
• Understanding of lumber manufacturing environment and risks present.
• Good comprehension of Health & Safety/OSHA rules applicable to heavy manufacturing.
• Good Verbal and Written Communication Skills.
• Ability to mentor safety committee members.
• Ability to use Microsoft Office Products including: Outlook; Word; Power Point
• Must be organized.
• Must have strong computer and presentation skills.
• Team player.
• Detail-oriented.
• Must have experience on heavy manufacturing sites.
• Must be able to develop and deliver training.

Education/Work Experience:

• Minimum of 3 years industrial safety experience required
• OSHA 30 Hour Certification Required
• 2 year college degree (B.A. or B.S.) preferred
• Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus

Travel Required:

• Frequent travel between the locations in Gatesville, NC and Ruther Glen, VA
• There may be infrequent travel beyond these locations
