Gilbert’s is a family owned and operated business. We have been serving the community since 1979. From 1979 until 1992 our business was a floor covering installation company, then in 1992 we opened our retail operation. Our store is built on property that was part of the original Gilbert Family Farm. As the Big Rapids community grew the farmland was developed and became part of Ferris State University along with many other commercial businesses and the location of Gilbert’s Carpets Plus Color Tile.
Showroom and Services
Gilbert’s Carpets Plus Color Tile is one of the largest floor covering dealers in the west central Michigan area, serving all of Michigan for both residential and commercial clients.
Our Showroom is 5,500 square feet. Our Warehouse is 9,000 square feet.
The world matters- We recycle carpet pad, cardboard and paper.
Position Summary:
Gilbert's Carpets Plus is currently seeking a Sales Associate that will receive an hourly wage and (once the training period ends) will also earn commission on each sale. Sales will consist of Flooring, Flooring Related Products, Countertops, and Window Treatments. Sales Associates are responsible for guiding clients through the entire buying and installation process. Sales Associates are responsible for identifying leads and reaching business targets through telephone, email and in person contact.
Responsibilities:
- Approach, greet, and offer assistance or direction to any clients who enter the Store.
- Present, promote and sell products/services to existing and prospective clients
- Explain product performance, application, and benefits to clients.
- Build strong rapport with clients
- Perform high-quality, professional, and knowledgeable presentation and demonstration of all products, promotional trends and best practices we offer our clients
- Learn to overcome objections, close sales, and perform all other steps of the sales process in accordance with company standards.
- Documentation for each sale, both computer and written. Signature or email confirmation of acceptance of sale and collection of deposit or payment of sale.
- Ordering of products for generated sales.
- Scheduling of Measurements and installations.
- A detailed and organized personal filing system which allows for quick retrieval of information regarding clients job specifications when another sales associate is covering for your absence.
- Cold calling to reach out to potential clients or builders.
- Achieve agreed upon sales targets and outcomes within schedule.
- Coordinate sales effort with team members. Team up with co-workers to ensure proper customer service. This may mean sharing a sale with another sales person.
- Help with showroom/warehouse organization, cleaning and inventory.
- Work in a scheduled rotation with other team members so that the showroom floor is covered during working hours of operation.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education Required: High school degree or GED, or working towards completion.
- Valid Driver's License: You may be required to pick up items or deliver items for a client. Use of company vehicles requires a valid Drivers License.
REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
- Six months proven service results in a customer centric, results-driven environment. Ability to demonstrate a high level of enthusiasm for providing excellent customer service skills.
- Effective communication (verbal and non-verbal), interpersonal skills, and active listening skills. Ability to engage with clients; begin a conversation, build rapport, and handle objections. Comfortable asking clients about their personal life styles and design preferences.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and professionally while servicing clients.
- Highly developed skills and commitment to customer satisfaction.
- Aptitude for negotiation and persuasion.
- Highly motivated, determined and target driven.
- Ability to perform necessary calculations; For Example: jobs will require you to calculate areas in both square footage as well as square yardage and calculate lineal foot.
- Detail Oriented and organized.
- Proficient in basic computer skills.
- Type 40 WPM.
PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
- Previous customer contact/sales experience.
- Interior Design or Similar Design Experience.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Full time position paid a base salary plus commission.
- Commission is only paid after the training period has ended.
- Commission paid on all paid and closed sales only.
