Grade/Range: $27.00 - $28.00 per hour, based on experience, including employer-paid premium health benefits for part-time employees working a minimum of 24hrs/wk
Status: Non-exempt – Part-time position; Monday – Friday; approximately 1:00 – 6:00 pm

Position Summary

The Teacher is responsible for the daily instruction and support of children in Family Connections’ Kindergarten-5th Grade Programs, supervising the completion of academic assignments and enrichment activities in Homework Club (HWC) and Summer Academic Enrichment (SAE). HWC is a licensed afterschool program that provides homework support and enrichment activities, and SAE is an 8-week, full-day supplemental education program.

Key Responsibilities

Programs – Children, Families, and Safety

  • Provide oversight of daily operation of the classroom, including overall safety, accident and illness prevention, positive interactions, and educational and project-based activities
  • Develop and maintain a positive and confidential relationship with children and their parents/caregivers, including thorough communication about program and child’s progress
  • Be consistent with the goals and the philosophy of the program
  • Always maintain visual and auditory supervision of children to ensure their safety in the classroom, on the playground, and on field trips
  • Support implementation of enrichment activities and interest clubs for children in a range of subjects, including literacy, math, science, computer literacy, and arts/crafts
  • Maintain safety and program expectations/policies, following all protocols in compliance for funders and childcare licensing
  • Be responsible for assigned documentation needs including children's forms, progress and incident reports, participant surveys, attendance sheets, etc.
  • Attend staff meetings and case consultation meetings with the mental health consultant, as well as program related meetings and trainings/workshops, as needed
  • Follow mandatory reporting requirements for suspicion of child abuse or neglect
  • Follow requirements for reporting and record-keeping of injuries or accidents
  • Practice and ensure professional standards of communications within classroom, agency, and with community partners/vendors

Record Keeping and Other Responsibilities

  • Conduct ongoing evaluation, documentation, and observation notes (DRDP-SA, YPQA) of children to create individualized portfolios and information sharing with parents/caregivers, partners, and for referrals
  • Maintain records for each participant/child following licensing, agency, and grant requirements
  • Create and distribute monthly calendar of curricular and enrichment project activities
  • Monitor, maintain, and order necessary inventory within approved budget and approval of supervisor
  • Perform other duties and ad hoc projects as needed or requested by supervisor

Qualifications

  • 12 CE units or in Child Development
  • Minimum two years teaching experience
  • AA in Early Childhood Education or related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Bilingual in Cantonese and English or Spanish and English strongly preferred
  • Experience working effectively in diverse communities of staff and participants
  • Collaborative and self-directed, with the ability to work well in teams and independently
  • Confident and respectful classroom management skills and approach
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including listening skills
  • Professional ethics of confidentiality, discretion, and good judgment
  • LivesScan Clearance and physical health/TB clearance required to be maintained throughout employment

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional classroom and office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 25 pounds and on occasion may require lifting/carrying a child or object up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
