Adjunct Instructor in the School of Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program

LOCATION: Wayland Baptist University (WBU)—New Braunfels

SUPERVISED BY: Dean, School of Nursing

POSITION CLASSIFICATION: None Exempt - Adjunct Instructor

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Adjunct Instructor of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program reports to the Dean of the School of Nursing. The Instructor teaches nursing classes within the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program. The Instructor cultivates productive relationships within the campus community and promotes the mission of the university through the strengthening of relationships with appropriate community and corporate leaders. The Instructor will participate in system initiatives to improve and maintain a scholarly nursing program. The instructor acts as a role model in the nursing profession and maintains a high standard of practice in educating and engaging the nursing students to provide evidence-based practices congruent with the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics. The Instructor will provide excellence in teaching, student advising, research, scholarship, and community service.

SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES:

  • Teach didactic and/or clinical nursing knowledge to the students of the Wayland Baptist University nursing program.
  • Participate in the evaluation of the nursing curriculum
  • Maintain Professional Development in areas of expertise
  • Participate and provide leadership when necessary in Professional Organizations.
  • Contribute to the community
  • Assume other professional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Dean, of the School of Nursing or other appropriate administrative personnel.
  • Foster and maintain partnerships with regional health care and social services organizations and agencies, civic groups, and academic institutions across disciplines to promote the development of effective leaders, practitioners, and citizens to advance healthy living within our multicultural society.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • M.S.N. in Nursing,
  • Doctorate preferred.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Three (3) years of experience working as a registered nurse (RN) in a position of increasing responsibility.
  • Demonstrated success in the acquisition of external funding and development of community partnerships
  • A record of effective engagement with faculty, students, staff, university administrators, and members of the greater community
  • A demonstrated commitment to serving the University's ethnically and culturally diverse population.
  • A deep commitment to Christian Higher Education and agreement with the purposes and philosophy of higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas in general, and WBU in particular.
  • An understanding of and commitment to work with educational programs related to churches, businesses, industries, and the military.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Expertise in the area of teaching in nursing education.
  • An ability to work effectively within a comprehensive university system.

Skills and Abilities:

  • The ability to effectively communicate information and ideas orally and in writing.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • The ability to understand and interpret personnel and student policies and procedures.
  • The ability to be flexible, to prioritize, and to be available to work extended hours as needed including evenings and weekends.
  • Be pleasant with others on the job and display a good-natured, cooperative attitude.
  • Be creative and be able to develop new ideas.
  • Be persistent in the face of obstacles.
  • Be honest, ethical, reliable, responsible, and dependable.

  • Endorsement by the Vice President of Academic Affairs
  • Able to pass Background Checks
