PURPOSE OF THE JOB
This position is a key contributor to the Global R&D team for Nutrios. The scientist works on design, planning, execution, analysis, and reporting of technical projects that support the commercial strategy of pet nutrition ingredient business. Key contribution areas include new product development, process development and improvement and working with internal and external stakeholders across regions to identify innovation and renovation opportunities for development at global level and hand-over to local regional teams for deployment.
TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support the Nutrios product pipeline by developing (or improving existing) applications for functional and nutritional ingredients for use in animal feed and pet food.
  • Ideate, design and prototype, plan and execute technical projects for maximizing pet nutrition business value proposition.
  • Plan and execute assigned technical projects that support the egg and chicken ingredient portfolios.
  • Support the goals of the global Nutrios R&D team in planning and executing projects in all phases of the stage gate product development process.
  • Participate in discussions with internal and external stakeholders from different regions to identify opportunities and growth areas and support the Nutrios innovation pipeline and commercial plan with technical expertise to deliver on key projects and the overall bottom line.
  • Document and interpret project data to reach conclusions and form recommendations for next steps.
  • Keep proper records of all activities (notebook documentation) and develop reports and presentations on work completed.
  • Communicate results to a varied target audience that may include peers, leadership, and customers.
  • Collaborate with Global and NA technical teams to handle the day-to-day operational needs of the Nutrios technical center including maintaining current knowledge of all relevant protocols, regulations, standards, and safety procedures as well as developing and maintaining standard operating procedures.
  • Delivering project results safely and in compliance with established processes and procedures
  • Build and maintain a network of industry contacts and consultants to leverage as needed for projects on-hand
  • This role may require occasional travel (inc. overnight and international) – total est. travel: 10-15%
  • Other duties as assigned

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in (food) processing technology, food science, food chemistry, food engineering, nutrition or related field.
  • ~2+ years (BS, or ~1+ year for MS/Ph.D.) experience in successful R&D project management. Successful internship experience would be considered in lieu of work experience.
  • Ability to synthesize conclusions from experimental data and formulate logical next steps
  • Willingness to explore, learn, and master new technical areas and is driven to overcome technical challenges
  • Good two-way communication skills; curiosity, ability to articulate and present a position and defend it, and the ability absorb new information/feedback and restate their position as a result
