SSNL Yard Waste Attendant

This position will help with monitoring and recording users of the City’s Yard Waste Drop off Site. This position will direct users to the proper areas to dispose of yard waste items and used waste oil. Responsible and accountable for general maintenance, cleanup duties and safe operation of City owned grounds and facilities. Employees work April 1st to November 30th, various hours between 10 am and 7 pm, Sunday through Saturday, no holidays, approximately 16 to 24 hours per week. Candidate must be able to work a flexible schedule.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:

  • Record permit numbers and monitor the users of the yard waste site.
  • Enforce rules and policies pertaining to the yard waste site.
  • Ensure cleanliness of the yard waste site.
  • Make sure yard waste site is secure at the end of the day.
  • Direct users to assigned areas within the yard waste site.
  • Responsible and accountable for providing general information to the public and providing assistance for their concerns and complaints.
  • Provide friendly, reliable, positive customer service.
  • Report to work at scheduled time with reliable and predictable attendance.
  • Work various scheduled hours Sunday through Saturday, including weekends.
  • Report any concerns or violations of City of Oshkosh rules/ordinances on, or in relation to, City property to supervisor.
  • Perform his/her duties in accordance with the City’s Safety Policy and Procedures as well as the Occupational Health and Safety Act, including all applicable regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work, make decisions, and carry through assigned tasks to completion without close supervision.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the employer, public, and other agencies. Possess positive customer service skills.
  • Ability to conduct work in a safe manner in accordance with established safety rules and procedures.
  • Ability to adapt to the daily challenges associated with a busy work environment.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and work outside in Wisconsin’s climate.
  • Build, foster and sustain a positive public image.
  • First Aid and CPR training is an asset.

The employee works near moving vehicles and is occasionally exposed to risk of loud noises. Considerable periods of standing/sitting. May be subject to inclement weather and/or weather extremes.
