Overview:
The Security Officer is responsible for the safety and security of all patients, employees, contractors, trainees, vendors, and visitors, utilizing Institute facilities. The incumbent will complete regular security rounds; check for and verify proper identification; sign-in/out individuals; provide escort services; control building ingress and egress; write reports; ensure adherence and compliance of Institute policies; and promptly respond to disturbances while on duty.
The position requires indoor and outdoor post.
Work hours: Evening 2pm - 10pm / Night 10pm - 6am or 12am - 8am Responsibilities:

The incumbent will complete regular security rounds; check for and verify proper identification; sign-in/out individuals; provide escort services; control building ingress and egress; write reports; ensure adherence and compliance of Institute policies; and promptly respond to disturbances while on duty.

- Provide for the safety and security of all patients, employees, contractors, trainees, vendors, and visitors utilizing Institute’s methods, protocol, policy, and procedure.
- Check for Kennedy Krieger Institute issued identification (ID) badges and complete the sign-in/out process for all patients, employees, contractors, trainees, vendors, and visitors without Institute issued ID badges.
- Ensure enforcement and demonstrate compliance of all security related policies/procedures.
- Inspect packages carried out/entering buildings by patients, employees, contractors, trainees, vendors, or visitors to ensure that the individual has proper pass/authorization for removal and to keep out contraband.
- Arm/disarm alarm systems and monitor Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) systems.
- Assist with investigations.
- Document and report all suspicious activity and prepare detailed reports as needed (i.e., Daily/monthly Activity Report, Security Incident Report, and Injury Reports).
- Ensure that assigned work environments are properly maintained and clean. Report safety/security issues, property defects, fire hazards, theft, and vandalism to appropriate authority in a timely fashion.
- Assist with training new/less experienced security officers and contract staff.
EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or GED required.
EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of one (1) year of previous security work experience is required.
- Previous security work experience, law enforcement, military training, or professional training related to the security profession from an accredited college is preferred.
- Report writing experience preferred.
