What is a Senior Analyst - Database Administrator?
This role works within the Information Technology Technical Support group and is responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of Central Hudson’s information systems’ databases. This is not an application programming or helpdesk position. Title/level is commensurate with experience.
What does a Senior Analyst - Database Administrator do?
  • Provides technical expertise in the design, implementation, and maintenance of database management systems
  • Designs and documents database architecture
  • Builds database schemas, tables, procedures, and permissions
  • Creates, tests, and executes data management languages
  • Develops database utilities and automated reporting
  • Analyzes and sustains capacity and performance requirements
  • Monitor’s systems and platforms for availability
  • Oversees backup, clustering, mirroring, replication, and failover
  • Performs maintenance operations daily, weekly, and monthly on Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL servers and databases, and information systems for the purpose of ensuring efficient program operations
  • Performs database backups and restorations and recovers corrupted databases
  • Evaluates and recommends new database technologies
  • Implements and maintains database security and encryption
  • Develops, manages, and tests database and information system backup and recovery plans
  • Develops standards and policies for data entry and ensures compliance
  • Support storm restoration efforts
What does it take to be a Senior Analyst - Database Administrator?
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience as a Database Administrator in an enterprise environment. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, candidates with an associate degree and 7 years of related experience or candidates with a high school diploma or equivalency degree and 10 years of related experience will be considered.
  • Ability to lead a small team of Database Administrators
  • Experience with MS SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL and Oracle DBMS
  • Understanding of Microsoft Windows Server and Linux server including working in a Command line/Linux terminal/Powershell session
  • Experience with PowerShell/Linux BASH (Sh) scripting
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels
  • Ability to quickly troubleshoot problems that may arise in work products and partner with analysts to identify and implement solutions; determine root cause and research potential solutions
  • Ability to understand business functionality and translate it into process flow diagrams, application requirements and system design
  • Must act as a role model for technical competence, helpfulness, facilitation of learning, and teamwork
  • Must take responsibility for personal learning, development, and time management, and set achievable and meaningful goals while managing personal targets
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to organizational values including performing to a high ethical standard while focusing on integrity, collaboration, and teamwork in all efforts
  • Must be able to work off-hours and weekends when required and be available for scheduled 24/7 callout support
  • Valid driver’s license
Preferred:
  • A degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science or related field
  • Experience in Utilities
  • Hands-on experience as a DBA in an enterprise environment
  • One or more recognized technical certifications
  • Previous project management experience is advantageous
  • Experience in cost control, cost reductions, and return on investment justifications
