Position Summary: This position is responsible for scheduling patients for urgent/emergent appointments and coordinating based on practice standards and triage protocols. Ability to manage a high volume of telephone calls and related tasks is essential. This position will also handle all non-urgent Retina and Cornea referrals to internally triage them per current requirements of each area. (Retina/Cornea Rotation).

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates patient care by telephone and for walk-in patients appropriately by gathering information and following clinic protocols, as well as scripted assessment questions.
  • Functions as an effective communication link between patients and physicians, including relaying messages and communicating responses between parties.
  • Organizes and establishes priorities to perform assigned work in a timely and orderly manner.
  • Demonstrates a complete understanding of EHR/EPM and completes documentation accurately and thoroughly per established protocols.
  • Consistently demonstrates knowledge of medications in terms of purpose, administration, side effects and contraindications, and documents all orders according to the physician's protocol and/or order.
  • Makes certain all records requiring physician phone calls are delivered to the appropriate physician.
  • Schedules appointments with physician as needed and per practice protocols.
  • Updates clinic protocols for patient screening as needed.
  • Maintains logbook for retinal/corneal patients’ distribution as needed.
  • Contacts and schedules patient urgent referral appointments per SEC policies and protocols. Reschedules appointments as needed.
  • Evaluates and distributes incoming triage referrals (received via worklog in EPM) promptly to appropriate areas for review. Keeps content of sensitive, incoming faxes confidential.
  • Maintains referral tracking system (in EPM) to ensure appropriate and timely follow-up.
  • Contacts referring provider as to the status of their patient referral and sends correspondence once appointment is booked or declined.
  • Participates in professional, skill and business-related continuing education, as required.

Wage: $18.00 to DOE

Position Requirements

  • 1-2 years medical office experience required
  • Medical Assistant-Registered required by State of WA (will complete after offer)
