TAYS is seeking a Senior Oracle Linux OS and Hardware Technician to join our high-performing tech team in Baltimore, MD. The role is currently remote.

What You'll Get to Do:

  • Install, operate, and maintain Oracle Linux Operating System (OS) software and standards. Patches are applied quarterly. Maintaining servers is ongoing.
  • Install, operate, and maintain Cloud, OpenStack and OVM with an Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) configuration in support of an Oracle database.
  • Install and configure Veritas NetBackup Client software to perform backups within a Storage Area Network (SAN).
  • Install and configure the firmware, management console on the x86 servers.
  • Configure OS SAN storage with LVM and multipath, managing (creating, deleting and extending volumes and files systems) including presenting them in OpenStack.
  • Create detailed build/upgrade documents Create and maintain a software depot to store the software used to build and upgrade the software on the x86 servers.
  • Train client's personnel on related software.
  • Configure SSH for file transfers for other UNIX and Linux systems.
  • Provide technical expertise with the use of the Intranet, Transmission Control.
  • Identify and resolve Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), connectivity and configuration issues.
  • Identify and resolve SAN issues.
  • Troubleshoot Linux and Oracle OVM hardware problems and facilitate any necessary hardware repairs.
  • Troubleshoot connectivity issues between different mainframe environments, Linux environments, Oracle on the virtual environment, and the Oracle on Cloud systems.
  • Communicate with Task Manager and other designated client personnel by phone and email concerning details of the issue and expected resolution.
  • Develop and maintain Linux scripts that actively monitor the software and hardware for potential problems and alert all concerned parties by email and pager.
  • Provide systems support for migration of new releases of Oracle database and application software.
  • Provide 24X7 Linux systems support to Oracle Database Administrator’s (DBA) administrators.
  • Conduct performance tuning and monitoring activities such as analyzing system logs, so that the Oracle databases, Oracle databases in the Cloud, and Oracle databases on VM operate at optimum efficiency.
  • Basic knowledge and ability to configure and maintain LVM and raw storage in Linux.
  • Provide 24x7-pager support to resolve automation issues and failures.
  • Communicate with designated client personnel by phone and email concerning the details of the issue, expected resolution, and root cause analysis.
  • Have the ability to research problems, contact and escalate issues with Oracle or other third party hardware/software providers.
  • Knowledge of Jenkins including groovy pipeline scripting and job creation.
  • Provide technical support during a disaster recovery exercise or in the event of an actual disaster at the either the SSC or NSC.
  • Train client personnel on related software.
  • Install and support Tibco Managed File Transfer (MFT) software.
  • Install and support Git.
  • Install, configure and support secure shell (SSH).
  • Install and support Computer Associates Privileged Identity Manager.
  • Install new third party software as acquired by project developers.
  • Cloud Automation using Bitbucket/Git, Ansible, Codiad and Jenkins
  • Manage and correct security problems from audits provided by client security branch.
  • Install and maintain third party auditing tools.
  • Install and maintain BMC PATROL.
  • Install and maintain Veritas NetBackup.
  • Provide the Task Manager with a proposed schedule for any work that requires a CAPRS action.
  • Ability to create and manage cron jobs in Linux.
  • Train client personnel on related software.

You'll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Bachelors' Degree
  • Contractors may choose to be located at either facility in Durham, NC.
  • Minimum of 10 years combined support experience with
    • Oracle, Unix/Linux, OVM, RAC, Veritas, SAN, OpenStack, on-prem cloud experience
    • Basic Linux knowledge, skills and abilities with any of the following Fedora based operating systems (RHEL, OL, CentOS).
    • Programming knowledge in Python including JSON API based calls.
    • Knowledge creating and troubleshooting Ansible playbooks.
    • Ability to take documented manual procedures and translate them to Ansible playbooks.
    • Skills with lifecycle DEVOPS deployment to meet client’s goal of continuous availability.
    • Ansible automation development skills to assist Linux SysAdmins and Oracle DBAs software installation, upgrades and patching.
    • Knowledge of Ansible’s Python based dynamic inventory and utilization in playbooks.
    • Knowledge of Jenkins including groovy pipeline scripting and job creation.
    • Knowledge of version control systems such as Git.
    • Ability to create Linux scripts for the completion and automation of task level requirements.
    • Basic knowledge of the Xen based virtualization technologies used in OVM.
    • Basic knowledge and ability to configure and maintain LVM and raw storage in Linux.
    • Ability to create and manage cron jobs in Linux.
  • Experience with customer technical support and routing/escalating requests.
  • Collaborate with support team members on solutions.
  • Ability to qualify for Public Trust Suitability.
  • The contractors are required to carry a cell phone and respond to client's calls at all times to provide 24x7-pager support to resolve automation issues and failures. Communicate with designated client personnel by phone and email concerning the details of the issue, expected resolution, and root cause analysis.
  • Have the ability to research problems, contact and escalate issues with Oracle or other third party hardware/software providers.
  • Provide technical support during a disaster recovery exercise or in the event of an actual disaster.
  • Knowledge of a software development lifecycle that includes development, validation, integration, training and production
  • Ability to develop a detailed project plan that includes schedule, scope, communication plan, risk analysis, resource estimates, milestones and back-out procedures
  • Ability to produce operational documentation using industry best practices in technical writing
  • Ability to gather process requirements to automate into Ansible playbooks.
  • Ability to develop and implement service request workflows for automating system operation and maintenance processes
  • Ability to perform written and oral communications, and oral presentations, to communicate technical topics to management and non-technical audiences, and to interface with the internal client customers on a daily basis.
