The Sensory Technician provides support to McCain’s Sensory Scientists and the Sensory Innovation Manager.

The Sensory Technician will collaborate within the organization to support the Sensory Science projects and initiatives. The successful candidate will demonstrate a relentless focus on sensory and food applications by adhering specifications, standards, and best practices.

This Role will work under general supervision of the Sensory Innovation Manager or Senior Sensory Scientist and help manage project timelines, executes necessary steps at the appropriate time and communicates with teams regarding inputs needed. In this position, the Sensory Technician communicates clearly and frequently with key consumer research and analytical sensory vendors to ensure all information is exchanged in a timely and seamless matter while sensory best practices are maintained. In this role, the Sensory Technician will build and maintain strong relationships with core vendors, supervise the application of best scientific practices by such vendors and manage test costs and timelines tightly.

This role will document results and next steps, assist with reporting, and coordinate sensory testing as needed.

The Sensory Technician is also a hands-on position that involves sample collection and preparation, panel and cutting set up, cleaning, and maintaining sensory facilities.


In addition, the job requires using computer software for test building, data collection, data analysis, and report writing. This position requires frequent communication with external vendors and members of the Quality, Technical Services and R&D departments.


Required qualifications and experience:

  • 1-3 years’ experience working in a test kitchen, food manufacturing facility, laboratory, or other related field
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills
  • Good interpersonal and teamwork skills; able to flex different communication styles for all audiences
  • Takes initiative in technical problem solving
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams
  • Ability to work in a lab environment and maintain good food manufacturing practice
  • Ability to lift weights up to 25 lbs. and perform other necessary physical requirements of job
  • Self-motivated, adapts easily to change
  • Proven ability to multi-task and prioritize in a deadline-driven environment
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
