SUMMARY OF POSITION:


Coordinate, motivate, mentor and direct shift activities within an established zone or area. Provide intermediate level support for operations, including quality control, troubleshooting and scheduling of personnel. Is responsible for assisting with the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of their shift and executes responsibilities in accordance with the company policies, procedures, and applicable laws.


Responsibilities include training employees; planning, scheduling, assigning, review processes, verify cycle time, directing work, and develop CI projects.


JOB DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide leadership and coaching, which includes participating in the accountability process for the quality and overall product realization process.
  • Enforce safety policies, ensuring compliance with safety rules and regulations.
  • Approve timecards, vacation requests, and manage employees’ absences. Communicate to HR as needed.
  • Accountable for ensuring that production scheduled for completion is executed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure safety, work rules and 5S standards are followed and maintained. Report any lapses or issues to supervisor in a timely fashion.
  • Instruct team members on safe operating procedures, plant conduct, and require them to follow these instructions.
  • Enable effective communications between plant management, shift management, support staff and operators.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems or assist workers in solving work problems.
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Investigate and keep Supervisor informed of all incidents (spills, accidents, poor performance or barriers to production, MRBs, quality issues, maintenance, and tooling).
  • Cultivate a team environment focused on continuous improvement efforts, employing problem solving techniques to support the 8D process, and suggesting and implementing cost-saving ideas identifying with the eight types of waste.
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of the production floor, department, or shift.
  • Responsible for scheduling or assists in scheduling operators.
  • Production reporting IQMS data base by shift end.
  • Conduct and assist others in investigations to determine causes of quality defects.
  • Provide input into the review process for Operators.
  • Ensures, suspect product is segregated, identified, and dispositioned per established criteria, or creates an MRB. Further coordinates support for action within the quality hold area.
  • Responsible to keep Supervisor informed of all quality, maintenance, personnel, and tooling issues.
  • Interact with the Operators while conducting visual, dimensional, and process audits in accordance with Control Plans, Inspection Instructions, and Audit Plans.
  • Perform tasks as an Operator, provide break relief time (will vary depending upon workload) and pack product as necessary.
  • Provides recommendations through Quality Assurance to clearly communicate quality criteria or process, through boundary samples or work instructions.
  • Verify the necessary job specific training for all employees in your area is completed.
  • Complete and assist with job specific training for hourly production employees.

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES):

Knowledge:

  • Production and Processing - Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Mechanical - Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs and uses. Tools/Equipment Used: Utility knife, razor knife, nippers, swivel knife, broachers, drills, arbor, insets, grinders, saws, air hoses, cooling fixtures, magnifying glass, insert fixtures, gauges, brushes, MIU’s, computer terminal/keyboard, & milling machines.
  • Mathematics - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure in metric or inch, using whole numbers and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret basic SPC graphs.
  • Education/Training - High School Diploma or Equivalent. Minimum Experience: 2 to 4 Years in a Manufacturing Environment preferred.

Skills:

  • Operation Monitoring - Must have a working knowledge of basic SPC. Must also have a working knowledge of print reading & interpretation, use and care of shop floor gaging (micrometers, calipers, height gages, surface plates, thread & pin gages, bore gages and indicators). Will also be required to take measurements on the MicroVu or Optical Comparator.
  • Operation and Control - Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
  • Quality Control Analysis - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
  • Active Listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Monitoring - Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Reading Comprehension - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
  • Language - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Abilities:

  • Arm-Hand Steadiness - The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
  • Manual Dexterity - The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Multilimb Coordination - The ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting or standing. It does not involve performing the activities while the whole body is in motion.
  • Near Vision - The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer) to ensure part quality meets customer requirements. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.
  • Static Strength - The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull or carry objects. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 pounds.
  • Trunk Strength - The ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without 'giving out' or fatiguing.
