We anticipate the need for a Shop Assistant – Garage, to be located at the Western Avenue Service Center, Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The job will be posted for 15 working days from December 23rd to January 17th, 2023. The starting base rate of pay is $24.28 hourly. This is a rotating position with rotating shifts of 7:00am-3:00pm and 2:00pm – 10:00pm. This is a graduated wage scale position with scheduled raises at six-month intervals during early years of employment.

Bargaining and non-bargaining employees may apply for this vacancy. The Company will have the sole right of selectivity.

Job Responsibilities (May include, but not limited to): Clean, fuel, and service the company's fleet inventory consisting of various vehicles, trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment. Perform garage work area cleaning, delivery of parts, delivery of vehicles and equipment, and other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Strong mechanical aptitude.
• Applicant must have the ability to read/write and understand the English language, perform basic mathematics, and possess basic computer skills
• Combination of vocational experience and technical training enabling performance of position duties
• A high level of safety awareness with a demonstrated commitment to working safely at all times is required.
• Must meet driver qualification requirements as specified in FMCSR parts 382 and 391 and obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A within the first 6 months of hire

Special Requirements

• Participation in after-hour emergency callouts in all kinds of weather conditions
• Ability to lift 50 or more pounds routinely and prolonged standing
• Selection criteria may include testing and/or assessment.
• Must reside within 20-mile radius of assigned service center within the first 6 months of hire
• The ability to drive and operate a wide variety of different vehicles and equipment with varied transmissions.
• Successful applicant must furnish standard and metric tools in accordance with the Fleet department's required tool list

Desired Qualifications:

• A two-year technical, vocational or trade school diploma in automotive, truck, and/or heavy equipment service repair and maintenance
• Demonstrated ability to work independently
