This is an entry level position involving the installation, maintenance, and assembling of traffic signal control devices. An employee at this level performs skilled work, primarily as a crew member. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Traffic Signal Foreman.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Set up traffic control around work area and be responsible for flagging.

2. Clean, install, and maintain overhead signs and banners.

3. Install and maintain the necessary inventory of supplies on vehicles.

4. Participate in the installation, replacement, or modification of traffic signals, intelligent transportation systems (ITS) equipment, school flashers, pedestrian signals and traffic counters.

5. Program signal controllers and school flasher timing.

6. Position requires stand-by rotation and assistance with special events and emergency call outs.

7. Operate a specialized service vehicle used for installation, maintenance, and call out duties.

8. Manually hangs special event banners and traffic signals over roadway with bucket truck.

NONESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
-Answer Telephones
-Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or general education degree (GED).

Minimum of one year in the field of electrical or electronic oriented job.

Knowledge of the standard policies, methods, tools, and materials of the electrical and electronic trade is required.

Ability to operate a bucket truck, and knowledge of safety practices.

LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:

Must possess, and maintain, a Florida Class "B" CDL driver's license or the ability to obtain one within six months of employment. Must have CDL permit by first day of employment.

Requires a minimum certification as a Level I Traffic Signal Technician from the International Municipal Signal Association, or the ability to become certified within one year of date of hire.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT:

-Must reside within 30 miles, or 45 minutes of the City Traffic Signal Shop, in order to quickly respond to emergency call-outs.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit.

Must be able to perform strenuous job assignments. Must have the ability to climb into a bucket truck bucket (stowed height 11’), and manually operate raised bucket over moving traffic at a height of 43’. Ability to maintain his/her personal body weight 40 pounds or more, less than the maximum bucket truck bucket lift capacity of 300 pounds. Must be able to detect wire of different colors. Ability to visually and audibly detect hazards affecting public and personal safety. Ability to learn and use a volt/ohm meter, signal monitor tester, megger cable impairment meter, loop detector tester, cable locator, soldering/desoldering machines, post-hole digger, measuring instruments, and an assortment of other power tools.

Pay: $39,848.00 - $51,099.00 per year
