PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Assure the safe and proper functioning of Signals and Communications equipment, St Paul Radio shop employees and the Classification Yard control systems, which in-turn provide for the safe and efficient movement of trains and equipment. This includes performing electrical and mechanical testing of S&C equipment, inspecting and commissioning new installations and revisions to existing S&C installations, and providing the data required for the submission of affidavits.


POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Participate in analyses of reported wrong side signal failures to permit proper actions to lower possibility of recurrence;
  • Assures that the safety of S&C systems meet acceptable standards;
  • Approves the entry into service of new or modified S&C systems (e.g. crossings);
  • Maintains comprehensive, up-to-date records of S&C equipment, installations and the testing and revisions performed on them;
  • Coordinates activities to coincide with those of the maintenance and construction work force in order to maximize the overall productivity and efficiency;
  • Coaches junior S&C employees on technical aspects of their job as required;
  • Distributes S&C Alerts and updates Alerts database with field action taken.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma is required;
  • Electronics training is an asset;
  • At least two (2) years railway or other relevant experience is preferred;
  • Demonstrated ability in Planning, Prioritizing and Execution to the plan;
  • Knowledgeable on S&C Standards and Regulatory requirements;
  • Working knowledge on S&C equipment & Signals Principals;
  • Good computer skills (word, excel, PP, SAP, CAM’s);
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written;
  • Must posses a valid drivers license.

Management Conductor Program:
