Location: Southeast Wisconsin

Reports To: Senior Program Coordinator

Status: Full-time (30-40 hours per week with some fluctuation)

Pay: $19 - $21 / hour

The Down Syndrome Association of Wisconsin is a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the lives of individuals with Down syndrome and related disabilities and their families through awareness, education, information, programs, services, and the exchange of ideas and experiences.


DSAW provides programs and services throughout the lifespan (parent’s first call for new and expectant parents, children’s services, adult services, vocational services, and aging services), as well as educational opportunities and events.


We have an immediate opening for a Site Coordinator in Southeast Wisconsin. The Site Coordinator will help us expand our Home and Community Based Services to individuals in Southeast Wisconsin by providing local oversight and coordination, as well as providing direct services themselves.


The Site Coordinator will oversee the program(s) at the Jewish Community Center (JCC) located in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin. They will take ownership over everything regarding that site and the program(s) that runs within it, including overall community partnership, instruction, main parent liaison, scheduling, curriculum development and oversite, supplies, and safety. The Site Coordinator will also help grow and develop the site’s program(s) and maintain an effective partnership with the JCC.


The Site Coordinator will often serve as a lead instructor at the site and is expected to be on site the full week to both instruct and oversee programs. In addition, the Site Coordinator will identify any needs for additional staff, take the lead in hiring, and will supervise any site-based staff.


We are looking for someone who has experience working with individuals with disabilities. This person should have excellent organization and prioritization skills in order to assist with site and program coordinator. Staff management experience is a plus, although this is not required for the position. Overall, the candidate must be a fast learner who is passionate about helping individuals with disabilities achieve amazing lives.


In order to complete this job well, the Site Coordinator must be very comfortable with technology, and have the ability to quickly learn new systems, such as a new Case Management System. The Site Coordinator should have a thorough understanding of MS Office/G Suite products. Experience with a participant management system and a time tracking/scheduling system is a plus.

The Site Coordinator may be willing to work some evenings and weekends in support of this role, depending on programming at their site.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Direct Services Provision
    • Consistently model appropriate social skills
    • Support participant by practicing, modeling and guiding them through real life experiences
    • Utilize curriculum to support participant through skill acquisition
    • Maintain and model positive professional working relationships with participants, guardians, employers, and other significant persons in their lives
    • Advocate for participants as needed and teach advocacy skills
    • Attend required meetings and in-service training sessions
    • Monitor participant’s goals and complete progress notes
  • Site Coordination
    • Lead and manage groups of participants in the community
    • Build and maintain key relationships with staff at the site including JCC staff
    • Oversee the schedule of programs at the site, ensuring the offerings are consistent with the rest of the region
    • Secure staffing for programs and substitutes as needed
    • Communicate program information to the marketing team for inclusion on sign up forms and marketing materials
    • Oversee all communications with participants and parents
    • Create and modify individual participant goals
    • Create DSAW curriculum to work for the site/schedule
    • Work the site staff to ensure appropriate safety plans are in place
    • Work with the HCBS Manager, SE WI as well as other site coordinators to collaborate on overall program offerings throughout the region
    • Budget Oversight related to program(s)
    • Oversee participant schedules and manage program waitlist
    • Create and send welcome letters, monthly newsletters and calendars
  • Staff Management
      • Directly supervise any site-based staff, including providing feedback when needed and completing annual performance reviews
      • Supervise ongoing service provision through quarterly/semi-annual check-ins
      • Manage staff scheduling
      • Review and analyze time sheets

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • 2+ years working with families and participants with developmental disabilities
  • Supervisory experience preferred, but not required
  • Applicant must have a valid driver’s license and insured vehicle
  • Applicants must pass a caregiver background check that meets State of Wisconsin requirements

  • Must be a sensitive and mature individual who is able to relate well to adults
  • Demonstrates warmth, insight, interest, and respect for persons with disabilities
  • Willingness to accept flexibility with their schedule
  • Able and knowledgeable to cope with emergency situations or behavioral situations in a calm and effective manner
  • Able and willing to be a team player and to work cooperatively with their supervisor
  • Able to communicate effectively with consumers and employers
  • Ability to multi task and adhere to timelines set forth for quality management

Compensation

Given that the Down Syndrome Association of Wisconsin is a non-profit organization that is not engaged in the production of goods or services, the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and Wisconsin overtime law does not apply to DSAW employees. Nonetheless, this is an hourly position budgeted at $19-$21 / hour.
