Job Description
  • Facilitate daily check-in and check-out procedures of clients including rounds, wellness checks, meal deliveries and other regular routines as asked
  • Maintain visible presence at assigned post
  • Create and maintain orderly process for use of showers, lockers, laundry, and other center facilities.
  • Meet the physical demands of the position: stay awake during any assigned shift, lift approximately 30 pounds, navigate stairs and narrow workspaces, use a standard phone and computer, and work independently
  • Ensure safety and security within the shelter sites and respond to emergency situations, as necessary
  • Ensures compliance with rules and regulations of center operations and report incidence on appropriate forms to supervisor
  • Submit reports to management, as needed, using daily logs, forms, email, and phone calls
  • Occasionally assist with emergency shift coverage on short notice
  • Collecting, cleaning out and resetting of guest spaces
  • Collecting linen, site trash, occasional light cleaning and disinfecting of staff floor and stations as needed
  • Supporting with janitorial duties if short staffed
  • Performs CPR and First Aid as needed
  • Attends meetings and trainings
  • Safely and effectively de-escalate disruptive and/or hostile persons using acceptable crisis prevention techniques
  • Safely intervene in problematic and/or crisis situations by implementing established procedures, communicating with management, and/or calling 911 for emergency services
  • Support special events as assigned, including set up and break down, and monitoring the event itself
  • Collaborate with co-workers through clear and consistent communication to successfully maintain the program’s daily operations
  • Other duties as assigned and necessary
Minimum Qualification/Requirements
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent, security experience, customer service, and mental health service experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working in a community-based social service agency serving people struggling with homelessness and poverty and ancillary challenges
  • Experience in substance use assessment/dynamics
  • Ability to perform repetitive physical activities that require the use of arms and legs and moving the whole body such as bending, twisting, lifting, walking, stooping, and handling of materials
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Consistently applies sound judgment to varying safety and community situations
  • Has a high level of awareness of one’s surroundings at all times
  • Ability to assess and identify potentially disruptive and/or threatening behavior and can take preventative action
  • Ability to maintain professionalism in intense and/or emergency situations
  • Demonstrates a commitment to learning, communicating, and working respectfully with people different from themselves
