Providence Abuse Intervention Center provides expert, compassionate care for children who may have experienced abuse. We serve residents of Thurston, Lewis, Mason, Grays Harbor, and Pacific counties. We also work with tribal child welfare services. Patients are referred to our center by medical providers, law enforcement agencies, or Child Protective Services (CPS) when abuse or maltreatment is suspected. Our medical providers have advanced training in the specialty of child abuse assessments. This high level of expertise leads to more accurate diagnoses of child abuse and may identify childhood diseases or conditions that might be mistaken for abuse.

The Medical Social Worker functions as part of a professional care coordination team of medical providers, law enforcement, forensic interviewers, DCYF workers, tribal social workers, advocates and others to provide skilled psychosocial services to patients and their families or caregivers. The MSW is a resource to clinical staff to assist them in evaluating patient needs for psychosocial and emotional support and to patients and families for dealing with crisis, transitions and continuity of care. Also the medical social worker provides, as needed, basic assessments of needs and recommends possible therapeutic interventions. The medical social worker has the necessary counseling skills to provide individual counseling to patients and their families, if needed.

Required qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Social Work
  • Upon hire: Washington Advanced Social Worker License Or
  • Upon hire: Washington Advanced Social Worker Temporary License Or
  • Upon hire: Washington Clinical Independent Social Worker License Or
  • Upon hire: Washington Clinical Independent Social Worker Temporary License Or
  • Upon hire: Washington Clinical Independent Social Worker Associate License Or
  • Upon hire: Washington Clinical Independent Social Worker Associate Temporary License Or
  • Upon hire: Washington Social Worker Certificate
  • Upon request: Driving may be necessary as part of this role. Caregivers are required to comply with all state laws and requirements for driving. Caregivers will be expected to provide proof of driver license and auto insurance upon request. See policy for additional information.
  • 1 year of working in a multi-disciplinary setting.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 3 years of social services experience with a health care related organization, including a minimum of 2 years in a multi-disciplinary health care setting and specialized training in child abuse and crisis intervention.
  • Experience working with Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice professional.
