Responsibilities:

  • Have knowledge of how wine tastes and differs, using expertise and education about varietals, regions and vintages along with harvest times, climates, soils and the overall winemaking processes, ensuring the sommelier can answer a vast number of questions from guests and staff
  • Continue to develop in-depth knowledge and have a deep understanding of wine, especially California varietals
  • Build and maintain Sonoma County's most comprehensive and expansive wine list
  • Train staff on wine experience, how they pair with food, and the wine menus offered, as well as be approachable to share knowledge
  • Consult with chefs to decide the best pairing of wines and dishes, seasonally as menus change or for catered events
  • Advise guests according to their personal needs related to their taste, the food and wine pairing, the occasion, and/or their budget
  • Stay in touch with changing wine trends, and conduct regular wine tastings
  • Meet financial targets
  • Be an active member of the FOH team always supporting service needs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years experience in a qualified restaurant
  • A passion for hospitality, food and beverage, and the guest experience
  • Wine Service presentation skills
  • Written and verbal comprehension of English language
  • Fine Dining experience a plus
