The COMPASS School is a therapeutic day-school that serves students aged 6-21 with varying disabilities including emotional impairment, behavior disorders, and other disabilities that require special education in an individualized environment.

Professional Mission & Focus: The Transitions Specialist is an essential part of creating a culture of accountability around student achievement. The Transitions Specialist is responsible for a caseload of students and oversees all aspects of the transitions process for these students. The Transitions Specialist is responsible for leading workshops with all middle and upper school classes. Finally, the Transitions Specialist is responsible for specific transitions projects, both internally and externally at COMPASS.

Transitions Caseloads
● Responsible for a specific caseload of students, ages 14 years and up
● Attend student IEP meetings as needed
● Write, edit and gather student and staff input for Transition Planning Forms (TPF) using
Massachusettts guidelines for best practices using various student inventories to identify the
students' progress towards goals and objectives based on the Student’s Vision statement.
● Create, track and share student success plans
● Administer various student inventories to identify the students' goals and objectives in order to
guide them to their professional/vocational paths.
● Facilitate referral, application, eligibility process for student and families to adult service
providers by working with various COMPASS departments
● Streamline communication among various stakeholders while motivating the student to attain and self-monitor goals with fading levels of support.
● Assist with the alignment of the transition continuum of services at the secondary level (if college bound).
● Guides and supports students with securing internal (COMPASS) and external job placements based on skills, abilities and interests.
● Collaborate to manage and submit student payroll (schoolwide); teaching students how to track and complete timesheets in a timely manner

Transitions Workshops
● Responsible for leading workshops with middle school and upper school classes.
● Aligns lessons to be student-focused and aligned with Job Readiness Curriculum based on MASS (i.e. MassCap) framework and modules to ensure all students ages 12-22 and have a plan for working through the modules
● Examples of workshops include but are not limited to resume writing, interviewing, financial literacy, career exploration, etc.

Transitions Projects
● Responsible for overseeing specific projects both internally and externally at COMPASS
● Examples of external projects include but are not limited to field trips, guest speakers, career fairs, building/maintaining relationships with job sites.
● Examples of internal projects include but are not limited to car wash, breakfast cart, school store, coffee hour.

Other Job Functions:
1. Supports the school by modeling and applying strategies of Crisis Prevention Intervention
(CPI) to de-escalate and regulate students in the classroom and milieu
2. Perform any duties as assigned by the Director of Educational Services, Executive Director or their designee
3. Brokers job opportunities and updates and maintains a student job board (virtually or physically) for High School students to access

Qualifications and Skills required:
1. Bachelor’s Degree preferred
2. Eligibility for the Massachusetts Transitions Certificate preferred
3. Able to use Mac operating systems, Microsoft Office, Google Suites, whiteboard, and all
relevant databases
4. Strong oral and written communication skills
5. Attends ongoing trainings related to transitions planning or holds a Transitions Specialist
certification
6. Have a working knowledge of IDEA and DESE Regulations;

Physical Requirements:
1. Provide physical crisis intervention with clients/students that may include physical restraint
2. Be able to stand to walk, stand, and speak for 45-60 mins
3. Be able to use a computer to complete mandatory training both online and in-person.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
