Instructional Aide ****CA Bay Area applicants only****

Full-time, Non-Exempt 6.5 hours a day on school days, 8:45-3:15 M-F

Reports to: Classroom Teacher

Summary of Position: Oak Hill School seeks an instructional aide. The Instructional aide works as part of a team to provide an integrated educational and therapeutic program for students, working closely with the classroom teacher to implement the students’ goals and objectives.

Strong candidates will have experience working with students on the autism spectrum or those with developmental disabilities, the ability to function independently at times, and to collaborate with a dynamic group of educators in a school setting. Additional details about the position follow.

Essential Job Functions:

Supervise students in completion of daily goals and objectives, in the classroom as well as individual and/or group therapy sessions

Provide individual and group instruction to students

Assist teacher with preparation of classroom materials

Assist teacher in maintenance of safe and nurturing classroom environment

Intervene when a child is dis-regulated or exhibits challenging behaviors

Participate in team meetings, individual educational meetings, faculty collaborations, and faculty trainings to provide input on student progress, accomplishments, and challenges

Work in collaboration with all faculty members to successfully implement child’s program

Assist in the compiling of data for monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports

Communicate effectively with parents, faculty, and outside specialists

Participate in professional development opportunities

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Experience working with students who exhibit challenging behavior

High School Diploma, two years of college or equivalent work experience required Bachelor degree preferred

Experience working with children, preferably on the autism spectrum, in a school environment

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Experience implementing positive behavior intervention plans

Ability to work collaboratively in a relationship-centered environment

Patient, flexible, and able to multi-task

Physical Requirements:

Routinely required to sit, stand, twist, reach, stretch, walk, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, use hands and work on a keyboard

Ability to talk and hear, read, write, type and interpret data, information and documents

Ability to move quickly/run

Occasionally lift or move 20 lbs

Travel dependent on school needs (field trips)

Ability to see within normal range

Ability to observe and respond to staff, students and situations and interact with others encountered in the course of work

Use of hands to handle/feel objects, tools, and controls

Must be able to work collaboratively with others

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $20.00 - $27.00 per hour
