PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Specialist, Environmental Remediation is responsible for the management of a portfolio of sites in the Remediation (Environmental Accrual) Program that identifies, defines and reports environmental risks and assists with the development and growth of the Environmental Remediation program and services at CPKC. The selected candidate will design and implement remedial measures for environmental remediation sites, included within the 10-year strategic plan. The Specialist, Environmental Remediation supports environmental risk evaluation and remediation for internal customers relating to negotiation, litigation and land transactions, and has leadership accountability for inputs and outputs of safety, service, productivity and financial metrics.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Manages a portfolio of sites in the Environmental Remediation Program and directs the design and implementation of remedial measures for various sites included in the 10-year strategic plan
Leads the environmental risk evaluation process for various internal customers including developing remediation strategies for land transactions and assessing environmental components of projects as they relate to negotiation/litigation and land monetization activities. (cross-functional)

Manages environmental consultants and contractors to attain goals of the remediation program by providing direction and oversight
Supports, develops and maintains a reporting framework of key metrics that clearly communicates critical environmental information to senior management and stakeholders
Manages implementation of the Environmental Accrual Accounting Policy as it applies to CP sites, to maintain Finance and SOX compliance. This includes recommendations to Finance for booking charges to the balance sheet for particular projects and development and implementation of the yearly remediation plan. Reports monthly the Environmental Reserves balance sheet coordinating with Finance. Collects and presents the environmental data for internal customers
Represents CP and exercises judgment in discussions and negotiations with regulatory authorities regarding environmental issues
Negotiates service agreements with specialized consultants to deliver cost-effective services. Responsible for contract management and administration (cross-functional)
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
University degree in engineering, science and/or environmental studies
Advanced degree or professional registration in related field preferred
Working knowledge of accounting principles and concepts and SOX issues is necessary
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in environmental science
Computer skills (word processing, spreadsheet, data base and project management)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills necessary
Good decision making and problem solving abilities
Ability to work both independently and support a team environment and demonstrate leadership with a strong customer focus
Flexibility and the ability to assess situations quickly; develop solutions and take corrective action is critical
Influence and persuasion skills
Ability to drill down, understand root cause and resolve complex issues
Bilingualism (English/French) preferred

Management Conductor Program:
