The Daily Sun along Florida’s Southwest Coast is seeking a sports reporter.
The Daily Sun was the 2022 Gold Medal Award recipient from Florida Society of News Editors and earned the 2016 Pulitzer for Commentary. Its sports department has always been a crucial part of its coverage.
The position will help a three-county coverage area with a focus on high school prep sports but the region is also home to Major League Baseball spring training; college baseball tournaments and a variety of other competitions. Pickleball? The area hosts one of the largest facilities for the fast-growing sport. There's always a story idea available.
The candidate will be well-versed in AP Style, sports writing and photography and willing. The area includes Charlotte, DeSoto and Sarasota county. They need to be able to shoot a little video, use a little social media and add content to our website.
Our coverage area is among the fastest growing areas in the United States, with miles of beach and boating options; plenty of free time activities along what’s called the Cultural Coast and a place that rarely sees temperatures below freezing. We are an hour from Tampa and Fort Myers; two hours from Orlando and the Everglades and three hours from Miami and Gainesville.
Prior reporting or editing experience is necessary. Candidates should have a college degree in journalism or related field, or should have equivalent experience in a newsroom.
