The Sr. Payroll Analyst position is responsible for entering Payroll-impacting forms into SAP (Direct Deposits, W4s, etc.), processing weekly offcycle payrolls and payroll deductions (e.g., union dues, work boots) and assists with customer service regarding paycheck issues. The analyst will also complete various payroll data and time audits to ensure payroll accuracy and SOX compliance, manages the AP vendor master maintenance process, orders departmental supplies. The position will be responsible for applying Union Labor contract rules during the calculation of gross payroll, monitoring system controls to ensure compliance with union contracts, and testing/implementing system changes to support Union payroll. The analyst will also serve as a backup to other payroll functions, provide critical analysis and testing for projects, enhancements, and system implementations, and query data for the various data requests received.


Accountabilities

  • Manages all AP vendor master maintenance including creation of new vendors and changes to existing vendors.
  • Orders and manages office supplies for the entire floor.
  • Queries and analyzes data for legal and claims requests.
  • Analyzes system issues including finding root causes, and testing system enhancements, changes, and fixes.
  • Audits gross pay calculations in Timekeeping system to ensure compliance with Union Labor contract rules.
  • Administers and maintains Timekeeping system controls.
  • Tests/implements system changes to support Union payroll in the Timekeeping system.
  • Monitors Union employee position data and interfaces to ensure accurate pay calculations.
  • Provides analysis and testing and serves as a department backup during system replacement or enhancement projects.
  • Performs payroll calculations in SAP on a daily basis.
  • Ensures accurate entry of W4 forms and direct deposit information into SAP, as well as the processing of other deductions.
  • Acts as point of contact for management and union employees, KCS Human Resources, various unions and banks on a daily basis.
  • Completes various timely payroll data audits to ensure payroll accuracy and SOX compliance.
  • Provides back-up to other payroll functions as needed, including taxes, garnishments, deductions/benefits, and payroll processing.
  • Works to continuously improve Payroll processes and ensure SOX compliance.
  • Performs ad hoc reporting, analysis and special projects.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, preferably in a job related major field of study
  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant professional experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Microsoft Office Proficiency

Preferred

  • Payroll experience, union payroll preferred
  • CPA, FPC (Fundamental Payroll Certification) or CPP (Certified Payroll Professional)
  • SAP or automated Payroll processing experience
  • Railroad payroll industry experience
  • Analysis and critical thinking experience in testing system enhancements, upgrades, and break fixes.
  • Business Objects and SAP query skills
  • Advanced Excel skills

Working Conditions

  • This position has a regular full time schedule with a normal work week of Monday through Friday. There may be a need for occasional work after hours or weekends.
  • This position may require minimal travel up to 10% of the time.
