Position Summary

We are looking for a Sr. Systems Administrator to assist in a server build of VMware/ NAS infrastructure in San Jose, CA. In the position you will be responsible for system build, testing, validation, and ongoing support of various infrastructure technologies hosting multiple internally developed applications. This position is in the Health Care space and knowledge of clinical terminologies and IT systems knowledge and experience would be a plus. This position will perform in depth and precise troubleshooting and documentation of complex server, storage, networking infrastructure hosting multi-tiered applications. This includes handling incidents and service requests from application development teams and non-IT users. The role also requires on-call rotation when necessary.

  • Provides first and second level support for enterprise systems and systems in one or more additional IT domains by diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving complex incidents to minimize system issues.
  • Supports stability, availability, and performance of enterprise systems (e.g., systems, applications, network, databases, storage, security) by monitoring systems to identify problems, trends, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Escalates identified issues, risks, or problems to lead administrators according to processes.
  • Plans and performs complex system configuration
  • Supports communications with product users and suppliers to share information, identify opportunities, resolve problems, prioritize customer requirements, and maintain continuous improvement through customer feedback.
  • Defines and tests maintenance and refresh activities.
  • Participates in the installation, upgrade, or decommissioning of designated systems, products, and infrastructure.
  • Assists with application-oriented administration and technical support for production and non-production environments.
  • Supports vendor support activities, as appropriate.
  • Recommends and executes performance tuning and optimization activities.
  • Creates documentation of new and existing system configuration and procedural information, and reviews documentation of others.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 7 years working in IT or operations.
  • 5+ years experience working in a highly virtualized environment using VMware and server OS administration in either Redhat or Microsoft.
  • 5+ years experience working with HPe Server Hardware, including DL series servers and blade technologies.
  • Thorough understanding of L1 Network / Storage connectivity and must be able to rack equipment in standard 42U racks.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Social Science, Education, Business, Health Care, or related field

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Three (3) years of experience writing documentation or standard operating procedures related to system administration.
  • Two (2) years of experience managing NAS infrastructure, NFS and SMB/CIFS (NetApp or equivalent)
  • Two (2) years of experience in Palo Alto Firewall installation and management
  • Two (2) years of experience in Citrix XenApp installation and management
  • Two (2) years of experience in Veeam or other backup solutions integrated installation and management
  • One (1) year experience troubleshooting networks using packet captures
  • One (1) year experience assessing vulnerabilities and determining when to mitigate
  • One (1) year working on Docker Containers and or Kubernetes orchestration
  • One (1) year working in ServiceNow for managing incidents and service requests
