The Staff Development Coordinator (RN) will assist the Director of Nursing Services in providing, planning, coordinating, and managing high quality nursing care, nursing services, and health education. In addition, the Staff Development Coordinator assumes responsibility for satisfactorily performing staff development, infection control, administrative, personnel, resident care, and safety functions. The ideal candidate has a nursing degree from an accredited college or university (or is a graduate of an approved Registered Nursing program), a current State of Pennsylvania RN License, three years of staff development experience, five years of supervisory experience in a long-term care facility, current CPR certification, and the ability to effectively utilize basic software and email.

Job Responsibilities
• Coordinates all educational programs for licensed and unlicensed staff and ensures that mandatory in-service requirements are being met as required by the Health Center, Assisted Living, and state and federal regulations • Provides an annual calendar of educational activities for staff including educational needs identified by nursing leadership and all relevant quality improvement activities • Coordinates and actively participates in unit-based orientation of licensed and non-licensed staff within the Department of Nursing in both Assisted Living and the Health Center and solicits involvement of unit staff as preceptors and mentors • Identifies essential competencies for licensed and non-licensed staff within the Department of Nursing in both Assisted Living and Health Center and ensures appropriate educational opportunities exist to promote the growth and development of staff • Plans, delivers, and evaluates educational programs for licensed and non-licensed staff • Provides Preceptor-Mentor education programs as needed • Maintains program attendance records in accordance with regulatory bodies • Coordinates the monthly Departmental orientation program at The Hearthstone • Provides or coordinates Basic Life Support (BLS), CPR, and First Aid education for direct care staff as required; offers optional training for all other employees • Participates in appropriate committees and collaborates with other staff/outside vendors • Promotes a high standard of care by licensed and non-licensed staff • Provides Answers on Demand (AOD) training to all clinical and administrative team members in the Health Center and Assisted Living/Memory Care areas • Oversees the Health Center and Assisted Living’s Infection Control Programs • Helps ensure nursing staff is providing quality and appropriate resident/patient care that meets or exceeds The Hearthstone’s standards and regulatory standards • Helps perform rounds, along with other Department Managers, to monitor and evaluate the quality and appropriateness of nursing care • Helps maintain administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability for the proper charting and documentation of care, medications, and treatments • Performs routine audits to ensure standards of practice and regulatory compliance benchmarks are being met • Participates in QA meetings and process • Helps with investigations, as needed • Works with Answers on Demand Trainers and Accounting Office staff to ensure training on clinical software is carried out and provides assistance to staff when needed • Maintains credentialing records for licensed and unlicensed staff in Assisted Living and the Health Center to ensure all records are current • Interviews prospective candidates for the Health Center and Assisted Living licensed and unlicensed positions as requested and provides Directors with feedback for final selection • Supports Directors with all personnel policies and procedures at the Hearthstone in a fair and equitable manner • Assists Human Resources in managing annual TB screening program and notifies Directors of noncompliance • Assists or delegates the administration of voluntary Hepatitis B vaccine • Oversees and assists in the annual Flu vaccine program and administration • Makes rounds to ensure employees adhere to the Plan of Care • Acts as a resource for nurses in assessment of resident medical condition • Participates in the Interdisciplinary Team process • Periodically monitors employees to ensure that they are following established infection control/blood borne pathogens standard procedures • Oversees established procedures in the use and disposal of protective equipment • Demonstrates knowledge and follows established safety management policies and procedures in the use of equipment and supplies
Qualifications
- Nursing degree from an accredited college or university or is a graduate of an approved Registered Nursing program
- At least 3 years of staff development experience and at least 5 years of supervisory experience in a long-term care facility
- Ability to effectively utilize basic software and email
- Current State of Pennsylvania RN License
- Certified in CPR
