About the Team

At Mixpanel, we believe and invest in great design. Our product allows teams to validate their ideas with data and share this insight with others. As a Lead User Researcher at Mixpanel, you'll lead critical research efforts, complex multi-phase studies, and create programs that help define entire product areas. The role is ideal for someone with a strong interest and background in the B2B SaaS space—you're interested in diving into the nuances of how teams make sense of their product data.

We're a tight-knit, collaborative group from a wide range of backgrounds who love joining research, data insights, and peer feedback into a user-centered process. You'll work closely with Product and Engineering to decide what we build. You'll be given the space to do great work and be supported by teammates who sweat the details.

About the Role

  • You'll be responsible for shaping the most ambiguous and impactful strategies across two core teams, Analysis and Data teams. You'll be deeply involved in product and feature definition, using a wide range of research methods.
  • You'll work alongside Technical, Product, and Design Leads to define, influence, and build support for a long-term product strategy that situates Mixpanel's future in the context of emerging tech and company growth.
  • You'll collaborate with Customer Success, Data Science, Product Marketing, and other adjacent functions to define our customers' entire data exploration journey.
  • You'll identify and advocate for specific research projects upfront and ensure that the findings match the needs of the business. You'll roadshow important discoveries, ensuring all relevant teams hear recommendations.
  • You'll grow and oversee a user research program to understand how start-ups, small companies, and large organizations analyze their product data.

We're Looking For Someone Who Has

  • You've been a user researcher for many years and have deep experience with research methodologies that include both qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • You've used qualitative research projects and findings to affect company strategy. Senior leadership sees you as a crucial thought partner in the rollout of significant initiatives.
  • You've shaped a research culture within product teams. You've mentored junior colleagues to understand customers better and guided team members on how to conduct their research with tools and templates.
  • You manage your workload proactively, suggesting solutions to competing demands. You anticipate issues or requirements on projects in advance and work to raise those with critical people outside your team.
  • You're an excellent communicator of user behavior with the broader company, helping teams around you to better communicate the customer's voice.
  • You're a terrific empathizer and can share in someone else's experiences by imagining what it would be like to be in that person's shoes.
