**This is a Standby On-Call Position**

Pay: $23 - $28 per hour, depending on experience

Our "On-Call Responders" support US Ecology's operations in Marine emergency response, oil spills, maritime/land response contracts, or planned projects as needed and under varying environmental conditions. This job is perfect for those with more flexible schedules looking for some extra income and don't mind working on-call hours which could include nights and weekends. With the required qualifications, this position can also be a good training ground for other opportunities at US Ecology.

All "On-Call Responders" must be located within a 1(one)-hour response time to Grays Harbor, Port Angeles, Port Townsend, Sequim, Everett, Seattle, Tacoma, Burlington, Anacortes, Castle Rock.

A Note About Travel Our emergency response work could take place anywhere in the United States, with the majority in Washington and adjacent states. While travel is required (which includes a paid-for hotel and meal per diem), we try our best to rotate our team members so that no one person gets an unfair share of travel. Projects can last hours, days or several weeks.

Day in the Life

As a Marine Emergency Response Technician each day is different you will respond to requests for emergency response assistance.

Once you arrive ready to work, and clock in, you can expect to:

  • Review the job assignment with your leaders and review the day's Safety Plan
  • Confirm all necessary equipment and supplies are in your gear bag
  • Assist team on projects as needed by performing labor intensive tasks while in a potentially dirty and physically demanding capacity and in harsh environments in varying weather conditions. These duties may be land or marine related to both planned work and emergency responses.
  • Deploy and operate light and heavy equipment relating to marine services, emergency spill response, industrial cleaning and site cleanup projects including, but not limited to, workboats, skimmers, pumps, blowers, marine/mobile cranes, vacuum transfer systems, etc.
  • Load and unload equipment, boom, and anchors from and into vessels, vans, flatbeds, trailers.
  • Attach and deploy boom of various size and set and remove anchor systems.
  • Understand basic seamanship and marine safety principles.
  • Understand and complete paperwork to comply with procedures and regulation, such as vessel/vehicle logbooks, placards and labeling, Department of Transportation inspections, etc.
  • Perform inventory, maintenance and cleanup of boat, equipment, and work areas to ensure supplies are available and compliant.
  • Performs other, related duties as assigned. These are duties may not be specifically listed in this description, but which are within the general nature typically associated with the employee's level of work.
  • Always be on-standby for the next ER job

Work Schedule

The ER Team is staffed to provide coverage 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. It requires working on an on-call basis which include evenings, weekends or holidays depending on the task. Staff will also be required to float to other sites/locations.

What you need to apply

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred
  • Driver's license required, plus a driving record with less than 3 violations in the last 3 years
  • Basic computer skills
  • 1 year of general labor experience preferred
  • Required to wear a respirator as needed
  • Ability to work an on-call basis including evenings and weekends
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background checks and drug screening
