SUMMARY: The Stockyards General Supervisor is responsible for overall hog operation from the point that the hogs arrive on the property and through the stunning process. Will oversee the day to day operations of the Livestock area including unloading of hogs received, humane handling and proper slaughter of up to approximately 22,000 hogs per day.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Working with Operations, Procurement and the USDA
- Reviewing Daily Livestock Delivery Schedule.
- Participate and Provide support with third Party Audits.
- Responsible for overseeing SOP`s in all areas of Livestock.
- Effectively communicate with Operations.
- Establish and maintain relationships with the Animal Welfare/ Stockyards and Staging Manager and USDA personnel.
- Effectively operate each department in the absence of supervisors.
Activities Related to Supervision of area Supervisors:
- Manage and coordinate work schedules for the livestock staff as dictated by the plant operating requirements.
- Administer all human resource policies and procedures required at the supervisor level.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the work environment, knowledge, skill, and/or ability required or preferred.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: (4) four or more years of experience working in the swine industry with a focus on the livestock area of Pork Processing Plants to maximize performance in all aspects of the position, including supervisory experience. Well-developed management skills utilizing sound management principles in leading a team of employees.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to write routine reports and business correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred. Ability to effectively manage time and meet all specified deadlines.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents in the English language and procedure manuals. Must be able to effectively communicate with Hog Suppliers, Truckers and other industry personnel as well as with USDA Inspection team.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Strong mathematical skills with the ability to apply to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems. Display patience if faced with any Animal Welfare complex situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to use computers with the ability to learn and effectively use any and all other computer programs that are or will be made available.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to move about the facility. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk and must be able to effectively work in a normal production environment where temperatures and noise levels may vary. Occasionally work in and around Live Hogs.
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: The hours and days of work are established as needed by operations and at the discretion of management.
70% of the time will be in the Livestock Barn working with and mentoring Supervisors in Receiving, Barn and staging areas.
10% of the time working with Operations to ensure timing and volume of hogs delivered to the kill floor.
10% building relationships with USDA inspection team meeting their expectations.
5% working with Scheduling of Livestock Trucks managing heavy and light delivery periods.
5% of the time focused on enriching STF`s culture as well as community enrichment.
