SUMMARY
The Structural Engineer will provide engineering technical expertise advising on designs and calculations pertaining to fire protection, including fire sprinkler, fire notification, and mass notification design.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Includes the following:

  • The Structural Engineer is responsible for the preparation of detailed Building Code and Life Safety Code analyses and analysis of fire detection
  • Analyzes existing buildings and building egress systems
  • Investigates and recommends corrective measures
  • Analyzes the applicability of fire protection innovative processes, systems, equipment, or techniques
  • Applies knowledge of detection and suppression system components
  • Provides fire protection engineering technical expertise
  • Performs peer review of fire protection designs, including drawings, specifications, calculations, schedules, and invoices
  • Drafts written recommendations
  • Supports development of government's construction cost estimates, working with cost estimators to identify and quantify design requirements.
  • Supports the Air Force
  • Perform Data Input/updating Sustainment Management System (SMS) data entry and management
  • Reviews field activities to ensure they are being conducted according to Air Force, regulatory, and project-specific procedures
  • Reviews and interprets the application of new statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Assists the Air Force in the development of DoD construction standards
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • The Structural Engineer has a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field is required
  • Current active Registered Professional Engineer license to practice Fire Protection Engineering is preferred.
  • Advanced degrees can be substituted for experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • The Structural Engineer has knowledge of facility fire protection code/criteria.
  • The Structural Engineer has the ability to understand construction drawings and specifications.
  • Possess or ability obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) and be able to pass a drug screen and a background check.

Work will be performed primarily in climate-controlled office environment.
