Department Summary
The Dean of Students Office fosters the development of leadership, civility, accountability, and responsibility in the University of North Texas student; builds community through service and involvement; and serves as an advocate for all students. This office is dedicated to supporting the UNT student who may need assistance in resolving complex personal and academic matters. We strive to help all students achieve their academic and personal goals and enhance the UNT student experience.

Position Overview
The position reports to the Associate Dean of Students in the Division of Student Affairs. This position coordinates the univerisity’s process for addressing the needs of students who have challenges with health, personal, and social issues through providing a myriad of interventions, referrals and follow-up services. Primary responsibilites are to assist with the student intiated withdrawal process in the DOS, reconnect with students who have been referred to the CARE Team, assist with Seeking Options and Solutions (SOS) Program and student complaints

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree in related field and two years of student services, student affairs, counseling, advising, or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent public speaking skills with experience in conducting training workshops.
  • Ability to provide leadership and mentoring to student populations.
  • Experience in networking across departments and programs.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to simultaneously execute multiple projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, and computer skills.
  • Some experience in customer service is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

  • Knowledge of university withdrawal policies and campus resources.
  • Knowledge and skills to professionally and effectively counsel students through the decision-making process.

Job Duties

o
Assist the Assistant Director for Withdrawal Intervention with the Withdrawal Program and tracking.

o
Meet with students to remove barriers and assist in retention efforts

o
Coordinate volunteer efforts, departmental partnership opportunities, and outreach initiatives for the UNT Food Pantry.

o
Assist the Associate Dean of Students with the UNT Food Pantry and tracking.

o
Train and manage graduate assistants and student workers on withdrawals and UNT Food Pantry policies and procedures.

o
Assist the Associate Dean of Students with events and programming.

o
Assist the Associate Dean of Students with students appealing to have their academic record reviewed by the University Registration Committee.

o
Effectively triages and manages student issues and concerns based on level of severity

o
Maintain processes, tracking and assessment for mandatory withdrawal process.

o
Assist the Assistant Director for Withdrawal Intervention with developing systems for reporting and maintenance of student cases.

o
Assist the Assistant Director for Withdrawal Intervention with daily, weekly, semester and annual reports for Withdrawal and DOS.

o
Maintain accurate case records and prepares statistical reports as requested.

o
Work with faculty and staff regarding individual students and issues that are affecting academic progress, serving as a liaison between these individuals and students.

o
Assist with outreach and marketing for faculty/staff promoting interventions for the withdrawal process, SOS and DOS.

o
Maintains good working relationships with faculty, staff, supervisor, co-workers and other partners

o
Maintain appropriate relationships between DOS and other departments (Registrar, Counseling & Testing, ODA, Student Money Management, Student Accounting, Housing, Financial Aid, Campus Life, Academic Deans, etc.)

o
Inform and advise the Associate Dean of Students regarding issues, policies, procedures and incidents pertaining to the university mandatory withdrawal process, SOS or other concerns.

o
Inform Dean of Students regarding issues concerning students and CARE Team referrals

o
Stays abreast of University policies and federal and state laws pertaining to mental health, responding to student crisis, FERPA, financial aid, enrollment, etc.

o
Participate in new student/parent, faculty and staff orientation sessions to educate constituents regarding student resources.

o
Completes special projects and assignments. Serves on committees assigned by the Associate Dean of Students, as necessary.

o
Provides information and assistance to students, student organizations, university departments, advisors and the public.

o
Assist with department goals, objectives, and learning outcomes and reports them as necessary.

o
Enforces all university policies.

o
Perform related duties as assigned by supervisors.

o
Serves as a Campus Security Authority for the purposes of Clery and reports Clery crimes according to policy and federal law

o
Attends annual CSA training
