CAMP KV summer day camp is seeking highly motivated individuals who enjoy working with kids while in a beautiful outdoor setting! Camp KV is located in Readfield, 70 acres on Maranacook Lake. You cant ask for a better way to spend your summer!

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Camp Director the Camp Counselor is responsible for coordinating and implementing activities in all areas at YMCA Camp KV The Camp Counselor is responsible for the safety and supervision of the children in their program area at all times.

Essential Functions:

  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age or as agreed upon by the Camp Director.
  • Be able to supervise children
  • Be able to speak and relate to children ages 6-15 year old
  • First Aid, CPR, AED certified or willingness to become certified.
  • Hold a high school diploma, the equivalent, or be enrolled in pursuit of such.
  • Be able to work independently and professionally.
  • Be able to effectively communicate ideas and concepts to children and adults.
  • Be creative in the implementation of program ideas such as new games and crafts.
  • Be able to exercise proper judgment when working with a group of children.
  • Be able to effectively work with children one-on-one and in group situations.
  • Must be open and receptive to constructive criticism, when it is for the benefit of the program or the staff member’s growth and development.
  • Can think in the abstract, solve problems, make decisions, instruct, evaluate, supervise and remember information.
  • Participate in pre-camp training.
  • Promote good sportsmanship among campers and ensure positive reinforcement from counselors to campers on a daily basis.
  • Provides excellent customer service to members and program participants.

Responsibilities:

Pre-Camp:

  • Must attend all staff training days.
  • Help to promote summer camp.

During-Camp: Arrive to Camp by 7:30 AM, stay until buses have left and camp is cleared and ready for the next day.

  • Help coordinate all activity areas.
  • Supervise group at all activity areas.
  • Care for and maintain all camp supplies (arts & crafts, sports, equipment, etc.)
  • Ensure a safe and healthy environment for staff and campers by never leaving a camper unattended at any time.
  • Assist in camp wide activities, including rainy day activities.
  • Assume role in camp emergency procedure.
  • Establish group unity and friendship among campers.
  • Be a positive role model for all campers and maintain good moral.
  • Ensure that a person specifically designated by the custodial parent(s), as indicated in the camper’s file, picks up each camper. Staff must ask for photo ID from parent, guardians, etc. when picking camper up for the first time, or whenever the staff is unfamiliar with the person Camp staff must approach anyone in the program area that is not involved in the program and ask him or her their business there.
  • Follow daily schedule
  • Attend all staff meetings
  • Staff shall not use abusive, neglectful, corporal, humiliating or frightening punishment under any circumstances. NO camper shall be physically restrained unless it is necessary to protect the safety of the camper of others.
  • Report any problems or concerns to the Unit Leader.
  • Assists staff in LOGS activities and participates in Family Nights as assigned.
  • Help campers develop an increased self-respect by providing them successful, confidence building experiences.
  • Be responsive to camper’s needs and encourage them to participate in camp activities.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by Unit Leader, Camp Director and/or Assistant Director.
  • Support the YMCA mission and philosophy.

Post-Camp: Present a final evaluation and offer suggestions for camp program.

  • Help clean up and close down camp for the summer
  • Report needs for next camp year.
  • Be evaluated by Camp Director

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds or more without assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
  • Be able to perform all required camp related duties.

Pay: From $102.00 per day

Schedule:

  • 10 hour shift
  • 8 hour shift

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Readfield, ME: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

Experience:

  • Childcare: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • First Aid Certification (Preferred)
  • CPR Certification (Preferred)
