The cancer center is proud to be able to provide full support and cancer care to patients through its medical and radiation oncology programs. Responsibilities
Job Summary / Job Purpose
The certified surgical assistant employed by the operating room will be assigned to first assist physicians in surgery performing specific tasks under the supervision of the physician.
Essential Functions
In addition to fulfilling the requirements of the job description for Surgical Technician job description, this position will include the following:
1. Assists with positioning the patient, provide application of surgical antiseptic solution and draping the patient in a standardized sterile fashion.
2. Under physician supervision, may be expected to open and close surgical sites, harvest grafts, assist with hemostasis, dissect and remove tissue, insert devices, alter tissue and other such procedures as requested.
3. Provide assistance in securing drainage systems to tissue and applying appropriate wound dressing.
4. Under professional supervision, may be expected to perform specific significant tasks, which includes applying and removing splints/casts, placing foley catheters, and administering local anesthesia.
5. Other tasks as assigned.

A graduate of an accredited Operating Room Technician Program. A graduate of a Surgical First Assist Program.

Education / Accreditation / Licensure (required & preferred):
Education:
A graduate of an accredited Operating Room Technician Program. A graduate of a Surgical First Assist Program.
Certification:
- Certified Surgical Technologist required.
- Certification in Surgical Assisting required.
- Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association required upon hire.
Experience (required and preferred):
- One year of surgical technician experience required.
- One year Surgical Assisting experience preferred.
Pay Range
$29.16 - $42.28 /hour
