Job Summary

DJ&A is seeking a full-time Survey Instrument Operator with 1-2 years of relevant experience in the land surveying industry. Under the direction of a Survey Crew Chief, the position will operate GNSS and Conventional survey equipment, perform the most technically complex paraprofessional field surveying duties, and perform other duties as required.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
· Responsible for the effective performance, calibration, operation, and quality checks of multiple types of survey equipment.

  • Assist Party Chief in researching and gathering of information
  • Work primarily in the field on boundary, topographic and construction surveys
  • Performs labor intensive tasks related to completing the surveys noted above
  • Perform QA/QC on work completed in the field
  • Follow prescribed safety practices for geomatic field operations
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Able to work in a team environment or independently

Required Skills and Abilities:
· Knowledge of field surveying practices and techniques.

· Demonstrated experience and proficiency preferred in Leica and Trimble Total Stations, TDS or Spectra Precision Survey Pro Data Collectors, Trimble RTK and Static GPS, Trimble Access Data Collectors, and Microsoft Office products.

· Must have strong computer skills.

· Must be willing and available to travel to project site destinations.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Excellent planning, organizational, and communication skills.

· Highly proficient analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Independent, self-motivated, results-oriented, and dynamic.

· Ability to work under tight deadlines.
Education and Experience:
· High School diploma or Associates degree

· One to two years of experience in the surveying industry

· Project experience with federal agencies (FHWA, NPS, USFS, NRCS, etc.) is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

· Work may be performed both outdoors and in an office environment.

· To perform the essential functions of the job, incumbents may be required to perform moderately strenuous tasks, such as lifting and carrying instruments weighing up to 75 pounds over rough terrain.

· Incumbents may also be required to clear vegetation, dig holes, and pound stakes with hand tools.

· Must be able to travel to various (and sometimes remote) project sites.

· Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.
