Tax Senior Job at Brush Bernard

Brush Bernard Healdsburg, CA 95448

Summary:

We are looking for talented tax professionals who want to work in a no drama, comfortable environment where they can achieve their professional goals while maintaining their desired lifestyle.

Who We Are:

Brush Bernard LLP began 60 years ago in Healdsburg, CA. Our client base reflects our roots in the wine country, featuring wineries, vineyard/farming, construction, real estate, manufacturing, service industries, high net worth individuals, and a great group of individual clients that represent a cross section of the local community. We have a newly opened office in Blue Ash, Ohio although as of now we are working exclusively with California clients.

Work Environment:

We are an intentionally small firm (currently 10 employees). We have very little staff turnover, offer interesting, challenging work and support your professional growth.

Our office in Healdsburg is a short walk from the historic Healdsburg plaza, and area filled with top restaurants and tasting rooms. Easy freeway access, plenty of parking, and each staff member works in a private office.

We work longer at times, such as tax season (typically 55 hours per week) and work less at other times of the year. Our focus is on billable hours rather than time spent at the office. Some employees want to work more to maximize their compensation and career progression. Others prefer working less for family time or outside pursuits. Our firm culture allows you to choose what’s best for you.

We offer Flex PTO, meaning there is no formal accrual of vacation or sick time. This can be a double-edged sword for employees. We assume we are hiring responsible professionals and make it easy for you to schedule time off. When you are out of the office, you are not expected to be checking your work emails or taking client calls. Your time off is your time off.

This is primarily an in-office position. Part of what makes us successful is our ability to work collaboratively to come up with the best strategic answers for our clients. Having a core group in the office enables us to take full advantage of this strength. We recognize that the flexibility of remote work is important, have the systems in place to do so, and are willing to consider it in limited circumstances.

Qualifications:

Experience: You must have experience being the primary preparer for reasonably complex individual returns and experience as a preparer of one or more types of entity returns (partnerships, trusts, S corporations or C corporations).

Accounting proficiency: Strong accounting skills are a plus. You will work with clients from the initial receipt of their information through the completion of the tax return. Being able to analyze and adjust the client’s G/L is important for both consulting and tax advisory services. You will see a range in the competency of the accounting information received from our clients. Some have professional, well-staffed accounting departments. Others, much less so. You should be able to adjust accordingly, provide adjusting entries to the client, and provide general accounting guidance as needed.

Status: Our preference is that this be a full-time position. We will consider a well-qualified candidate with at least 24 hours per week availability. Part time is a non-exempt, hourly position.

Credentials: You must possess or be actively pursuing either a CPA, EA or a MST.

Strong communication skills: You are comfortable talking to a variety of people, whether in person or on the phone. You can write concisely and clearly. Your current position may not involve a lot of client contact. We can help you build skills in this area.

Ability to work independently: We don’t micromanage our employees. You should be able to manage multiple client engagements with light supervision. We will expect you to return client communications promptly and keep partners aware of any issues that arise.

Wages & Benefits:

Salary range $75k to $110k

Flex PTO policy.

Medical 90% paid for employee plus spouse or dependent.
