EPI’s Teacher Support Specialists support new EPI program teachers as they plan for their move to the United States. They monitor key points in the teacher’s onboarding process and provide suggestions and feedback. EPI Teacher Support Specialists continue to communicate with and monitor the progress of teachers after arrival in their new community via telephone, text messaging, and email. They support EPI program teachers in their classroom practices, helping them to facilitate authentic cultural exchange while also achieving learning outcomes. Teacher Support Specialists carry out scheduled one-on-one meetings along with virtual group events through the use of video conferencing. They seek to build and maintain relationships with their teachers in order to provide advice, enforce program requirements, and serve as advocates for cultural exchange.

As a Teacher Support Specialist, a typical day might include the following:

• Helping teachers develop plans for arriving in the US
• Assisting new teachers with acclimating to their new communities
• Informing new teachers of important information via online conferencing
• Interviewing teacher candidates remotely to determine professional abilities
• Researching a community where teachers will live and creating partnerships in that area
• Managing a caseload of exchange teachers and supporting them through consistent communication
• Working with other EPI team members to help program teachers develop in the classroom
• Explaining effective US classroom strategies to international teachers
• Providing guidance and inspection of cross cultural activities
• Delivering virtual and in-person presentations to audiences of 30-50 people
• Demonstrating teaching strategies on camera

You’re good at:

• Helping people through difficult decisions and obstacles
• Communicating over different mediums, including public speaking
• Multitasking and managing multiple issues at the same time
• Maintaining a positive and professional attitude, even when confronted with challenges
• Working on a team to accomplish goals

You have:

• A Bachelor’s degree
• At least one year of K-12 teaching experience
• High energy to engage an audience
• Communication skills required to work with international teacher candidates
• The ability to collect data, define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
• Motivation to be proactive in helping others
• An appreciation for diversity and cultural interaction
• A dedication to working with a team to complete objectives
• The ability to travel in the summers to EPI Orientation Events
• The ability to travel incidentally to regional school districts

You might also have:

• Counseling experience
• Advanced computer skills
• The ability to speak Spanish, Tagalog, or another world language
