Summary:

The Technical Writer II plans, designs, writes, edits, and proofreads documents, such as correspondence, contract deliverables, manuals, proposals, and various company policies, plans, forms, and procedures in support of the J-Tech II contract in Nevada. The Technical Writer II manages document workflows to ensure their timely completion, compliance, and accuracy, as well as manages the Data Management Log (DML) repository to ensure the prompt and appropriate handling of time-sensitive customer documentation.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Use the in-house production flow of documents from inception to distribution of final copies. Identify and correct problem areas as they arise.

Interface with engineers and technical professionals in the writing, editing, and publication of various types of customer documents, such as manuals, work instructions, checklists, test plans, test reports, and statements of work.

When preparing technical documentation, provide guidance and direction in the areas of graphics, quality, coverage, format, and style. Develop, edit, and proofread documents, ensuring proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling to ensure that the document is compliant with departmental and publication standards.

Utilize the appropriate computer software for document text production, which includes desktop publishing. Investigate and implement improved and effective methods to produce documentation electronically.

Establish and maintain an electronic data library of documents and work order files for documents received for processing, and ensure that all documentation is uploaded correctly and with accurate metadata.

Provide quality assurance checks for all document deliverables.

Ensure adherence to military and contract standards and specifications when preparing technical documents. Ensure documentation meets departmental, customer (internal and external), and contractual obligations.

Produce near error-free documentation in support of the J-Tech II contract.

Under the supervision of the DM/QA Supervisor, manage the DM office workload. Oversee the assignment of workflow tasks to department personnel and ensure reviewer lists are complete and accurate.

Ensure all annual reviews of all controlled documents are managed and coordinated efficiently.

Provide training and support to new Technical Writers and review all documentation for proper grammar, formatting, punctuation, and spelling, in accordance with departmental and publication standards.

Maintain internal documentation and reference guides to ensure departmental continuity.

Ensure all deliverables, correspondence, and reports are received, distributed, and logged in a timely manner and controlled in accordance with the J-Tech II contract.

Maintain a repository for deliverables, correspondence, and reports, and ensure all documentation is logged correctly.

Build reports for newly-created, recently updated, and obsolete documents and distribute them to annex personnel.

Maintain a database of frequently used terms and acronyms.

Other Related Duties:

Support DM tasks in all other areas during personnel absences.

Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION (or Equivalent Experience): Bachelor's degree in English, Business, Journalism or equivalent discipline and at least two years of job-related experience or equivalent preferred. In lieu of the Bachelor's degree, a High School Diploma or High School Equivalency and at least five years of job-related experience.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat, organizational skills, and the ability to perform detail-oriented work are required. SharePoint experience/knowledge is preferred. Position may require limited travel. Position will require the ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance.

Core Competencies:

Excellent written and oral communication skills, advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat, experience in desktop publishing, organizational skills, and the ability to perform detail-oriented work are required. Ability to use the Internet and other commonly used electronic communication tools. Proper English grammar, usage, spelling and punctuation; knowledge of modern business office procedures, including filing systems and business correspondence.

Work Environment, Physical and Mental Demands:

Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines.
