Technical Writer/Training Specialist Job at Sagitec

Sagitec Remote

Job Description:

Sagitec provides custom software to state and local government agencies. Our technology and approach to projects is innovative, ever-changing, and fast-paced.
The same can be said for the Training and Communications Team at Sagitec. While we are contractually bound to provide customized services and deliverables, we are always looking for how to be better, do better, and provide more to our clients. Sagitec's Training and Communications Team provides internal and external training, and documentation services to Sagitec's clients.
We are seeking a full-time, permanent, entry-level Technical Writer/Training Specialist to work as a consultant on client projects. (New college grads are encouraged to apply!) This is a position within a team dedicated to training and documentation for an end-user audience.
Sagitec builds custom, transaction-based software for Pension and Unemployment Insurance clients. Because each project is unique, the training and documentation initiatives are always different. This makes the learning curve steep. You will learn the domain (Pension or Unemployment Insurance), your assigned client organization, and the software.
Successful Employees in this role have strong critical thinking skills and welcome the opportunity to dive in and figure things out without a lot of assistance from others. You must be comfortable with occasional ambiguity and the fast-moving pace of our work while learning the software and business of Pension and Unemployment Insurance. You must be able to read and interpret dense technical documentation, talk to a variety of different Subject Matter Experts, feel comfortable working in a test environment to connect the dots from lots of different resources. Additionally, the software changes frequently up to and after the implementation date. Because of this, the expectation is that you may re-work something multiple times to keep documentation in sync with the evolving software at integral parts of the project.
While the job is documentation-heavy and training facilitation light, this position does require occasional travel. On average, travel is about 25% annually.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with internal teams to understand documentation requirements and system operations.
  • Analyze and interpret existing information in the form of design documentation, system applications, and client manuals.
  • Plan, develop, organize, and write step by step operational procedure documentation.
  • Copyedit and quality assurance of operational procedure documentation to ensure writing standards are being used.
  • Updating documentation and educational materials based on system changes, comments from subject matter experts, and comments from clients.
  • From the procedure documentation, create end-user handbooks/manuals, online help, and eLearning courses.
  • Use data and analytics to understand learner behavior and drive continuous improvement in our learning solutions.
  • Facilitating training sessions for end-users transitioning to the new software (using an explain-demonstrate-practice methodology).
  • Developing training activities and practice labs for people that you will need to teach the software (this activity sometimes includes mining data that can be used to successfully execute practice exercises in the system).
  • Provide copyedit and format support for sales proposals when needed.

Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of related work experience.
  • The ability to think critically and work through issues independently.
  • Results-driven (sometimes overtime is needed to meet deadlines).
  • Strong written communications skills.
  • Comfortable presenting in front of groups of people.
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills.
  • Cope with change and ambiguity well.
  • You must be able to travel 25% of the time whenever and wherever required.
  • There's a lot to learn so understanding how you learn best and being able to maximize your learning efficiency is key.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • eLearning course development.
  • Experience working with a Pension, Unemployment Insurance organization, and/or Public Administration.
  • Experience working with a software engineering company (custom development is best).
  • Technical knowledge.
  • Training facilitation experience.
  • Technical documentation experience.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical writing, education, or a related field.

Compensation and Benefits:
