Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for comprehending and coordinating communications and data between emergency and/or public safety units via a variety of telecommunication methods.

Job Functions

• Gathers information and dispatches appropriate resources to emergency/non-emergency requests.
• Provides effective coverage of geographic area by strategic deployment of vehicles and appropriate mutual aid coverage.
• Maintains status of vehicle/equipment breakdowns, services and reporting mechanisms.
• Demonstrates knowledge of all phone lines and appropriately gathers and disseminates information on a timely basis.
• Provides appropriate medical instruction to callers.
• Demonstrates working knowledge of monitoring devices and takes appropriate action when needed.
• Provides clerical support for the department billing procedures.
• Provides professional and courteous customer service to internal and external customers.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education/Work Experience

• High school graduate or equivalent
• Must have home telephone/cell phone

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions
• Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above
• CRT experience
• Ability to perform in a high stress area
• Ability to relate confidence with patients, physicians and staff and project a positive first impression
• Ability to assimilate information for thorough and concise record taking under difficult and stressful situations
• Ability to type accurately
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize without specific guidelines
• Demonstrated map reading skills
• Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations
• Capable of making independent decisions with the use of good critical thinking and problem solving skills
• Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above

License/Certifications

• EMD Certification (or obtain within 6 months of hire)

Preferred Qualifications

• Emergency dispatch experience
• Medic First Aid training or equivalent
