Statement of the Job:

The Temporary Facilities Maintenance Worker CL1 in the Grounds Shop is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the campus grounds and the general care of the campus community through event set up and close out, office relocations, trash picking, debris removal, and the like. This position focuses on the maintenance and upkeep of campus grounds, roadways, sidewalks and walkways, decks, patios, etc. for appearance and the safety of the campus community, visitors and the general public. Work includes lawn mowing, grounds care and snow removal activities. The position also assists in event set-ups and close-outs, moving office furniture, and general clean out of office spaces. Starting wage for this position is $15.64/hr.


Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Adhering to safety procedures, including reporting mechanical and/or safety issues.
  • Maintains facilities and grounds which may include mowing; weed removal; trimming trees; picking-up litter; sweeping; mopping; making minor building repairs; moving furniture and equipment; and/or performing related duties.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of vehicles, equipment and tools; completes routine maintenance on equipment, tools, and vehicles. May work with materials and chemicals associated with cleaning.
  • Removing snow on sidewalks, mowing assigned lawns and fields, landscaping, digging.
  • Performing manual labor associated with the assigned task or responsibility.
  • Transporting materials between locations.
  • Moving materials and equipment for larger projects.
  • Loads, unloads materials, supplies and other items on and off campus.
  • Performs routine maintenance checks, cleaning, and minor maintenance on equipment.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level.
  • Performing heavy manual labor for extended periods of time, often under unfavorable conditions

Qualifications:

  • Equipment use and troubleshooting;
  • Performing manual labor;
  • Ability to understand Material Safety Data Sheets;
  • Ability to pass required safety training;
  • Monitoring and maintaining inventory;
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
