The Guest Support Staff is responsible for providing support services designed to cure guests’ homelessness and foster an environment of love, dignity and respect. This is an active hands-on role.


Essential Functions

  • Provide direct guest support:

Monitor for unusual activities such as theft, intrusion and unwelcome visitors. · Complete intake on new guests; explain agency rules and policies.

  • Perform daily check-in of guests, provide linens, assist with bag check process. · Attend to guest needs, answer questions, resolve problems and escalate to site management when necessary.
  • Store and serve meals to unhoused guests.
  • Willingness to take a Trauma Informed approach to addressing clients. · Report problems and concerns of behavioral and physical changes in clients/residents to Case Manager and respond/intervene in a therapeutic manner as needed
  • Assist in tracking all outcomes according to good practice standards/funder requirements. · Monitor bed occupancy to ensure maximum usage.
  • Conduct daily/random walk-throughs of the facility ensuring conditions are safe and guests are adhering to shelter policies and procedures.
  • Provide guests with information and referrals; document interaction(s) in the logbook. · Uphold City Hope St. Louis policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the efficient operation of the Shelter:
  • Answer and direct incoming calls, provide information and monitor security gate access, if applicable.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other City Hope St. Louis departments and employees. · Assist in the distribution of donations and hygiene items.
  • Prepare sign in reports. incident reports and other reports.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area; wipe down counters, cots, common surfaces and chairs on every shift; Perform other duties as required.

Additional Attributes

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED with 3-4 years' experience working for an agency serving clients experiencing substance abuse, severe and persistent mental illness, dual diagnosis, homelessness or minimum or Associate's Degree with two years' experience working for an agency serving clients experiencing substance abuse, severe and persistent mental illness, dual diagnosis and/or homelessness.
  • Commitment to a solution-focused work environment and the clear intention to meet guests' expectations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to remain clear-headed when conflicts, crisis and emergency situations arise.

Physical Activities and Working Conditions

  • Ability to operate printers, fax machines, scanner, PC and smartphone. · Basic Microsoft Office skills. Word, Outlook and Excel required
  • Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, moving from one workspace to another. Ability to lift, carry, push or pull objects up to 50 pounds unassisted;

Qualifications

Required:

High school diploma or equivalent; or parental consent and work permit if between the ages of 15 and 17

Preferred:

Experience working with the homeless or impoverished


**Candidate must be willing to work on the weekend.
