The Employee Service Center Specialist


The Albemarle County Public Schools Department of Human Resources is actively recruiting a temporary Employee Service Center (ESC) Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will serve as the face of the Albemarle County Public Schools (ACPS) Human Resource’s function and interacts on a continual basis to answer questions from ACPS most important resource – our employees. Under general management direction, the Employee Service Center (ESC) Specialist is responsible for end-user support, customer service, and responding to employee questions and inquiries about employee benefit programs, compensation matters, and human resource policies. *We are hiring for two temporary vacancies. One position will focus on Onboarding and one on Benefits.


  • Resolves common end-user questions pertaining to recruitment/applications, employee compensation, benefit programs, including health, life, disability insurance, medical and dependent care spending accounts, COBRA, income continuance, paid time off as well as retirement and pension plans; all critical areas regarding staff members’ employment life cycle.
  • Refers more infrequent and specialized employee questions to a respective Center of Expertise (Recruitment, Benefits/Compensation or Learning) representative.
  • Serves as the primary means for the ACPS’s Human Resources function to interact on a continual basis to inform ACPS team members on critical employment-related questions.
  • Supports the department’s overall efforts to measure effectiveness by tracking the nature of customer requests. Creates frequently asked questions and answers for commonly faced employee questions to enable ACPS employee self-service.
  • Serves as the primary contact for customer questions when self-service systems are exhausted.
  • Maintains information systems, prepares, and submits HR related correspondence and documentation, and submits required governmental reports.
  • Actively participates and supports the HR Department.
  • As expected of every employee in Albemarle County Public Schools, this position models division racial equity leadership through oversight of processes, procedures, policies, and practices that promote cultural awareness, anti-bias, and anti-racism behaviors.
  • Ensures the attainment of the goals of the School Division’s strategic plan.

Performs related tasks as required.


THE QUALIFICATIONS


Education and Experience


Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and minimum of one year related experience. Human Resource and customer service experience preferred. Any appropriate combination of education and experience may be considered.

Serves as a role model for exceptional customer service and teamwork. General knowledge of human

resource function, human resource/payroll information systems, and compensation. Ability to work in fast-paced environment and manage customer expectations. Ability to solve human resources problems; ability to communicate effectively and empathetically, both orally and in writing; ability to plan, supervise and evaluate the work of subordinates; Proficient at using software, including Microsoft Office Suite and HR information systems and leveraging technology for employee support processes, ability to devise detailed procedures and methodology, ability to plan and organize. Ability to maintain the confidentiality of employee information. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Ability to adapt to the needs of the organization and employees. Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them when appropriate.


THE PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS


Work is typically performed in an office setting. Occasional walking, light lifting up to 40 pounds and other limited physical activities are required. Occasional attendance of school and other County activities which require travel throughout the County. Occasional department needs require working beyond normal work hours. Daily contact is made with County employees, in person, by telephone, and in writing. These contacts often require considerable skill and tact, diplomacy, persuasion, and/or negotiation.


THE SALARY RANGE


The hiring range for this position is $17.24 - $20.69 per hour. Starting offer is based on applicable education beyond minimum requirements and internal equity. This is a full time, FLSA non-exempt, temporary position.
